Judges at the Irish Dentistry Awards
An independent panel of judges consisting of highly respected and experienced dentists, as well as members of the editorial board for Irish Dentistry and Dentistry magazine will select the winners. The renowned Tony Aherne will chair the Irish Dentistry Awards Judging panel for 2013. The judges are as follows:

Stuart Aherne
Stuart Aherne is a graduate of The University of Wales College of Medicine and completed his vocational training in Cardiff. He is presently working as a partner in a private specialist prosthodontic and implant practice in Cork.

Tony Aherne
Tony Aherne is the chairman of the Irish Dentistry Awards judging panel. He is a former secretary, treasurer and executive council member of the European Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry. A founder of the Irish Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, he has a practice in Cork specialising in implant dentistry and prosthodontics.

Conor Clune
Conor Clune graduated in 1981 from Cork Dental School and Hospital. He first practiced in Maidstone, Kent in England for five years, before returning to his hometown of Douglas in 1987 to set up his own general practice.
He has seen huge growth and change in dentistry over the years, and believes firmly in putting the care and treatment of the patient first.
Since returning to Ireland, he has found it a joy and pleasure to work with friends, neighbours and the wider community of Cork and beyond. He takes great satisfaction in serving his patients with courtesy and a smile.

Julian English
Julian English is the editorial director at Finlayson Media Communications, the company responsible for publishing Irish Dentistry.
A well-known face in the UK dental profession, he is the editor of the multi-award-winning Dentistry magazine, and a member of the editorial committee of the British Dental Trade Association.

Guy Hiscott
Guy Hiscott is the editor of Irish Dentistry and the clinical journal Implant Dentistry Today. An experienced dental journalist, he is also features editor on the prestigious title Private Dentistry, and regularly writes for Dentistry magazine in the UK.

Peter Moran
Peter Moran qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 1992. Following this, he worked in the UK and Australia for a number of years before returning to Tralee, County Kerry, to take up private practice in 1996. In 2003 and 2005 he gained further postgraduate qualifications from the Eastman Dental Institute and has a particular interest in prosthdontics, implant Dentistry and CAD/CAM technology. He is married to Norma and has two children, Cian and Tadhg.

Grania O'Connell
Grania O'Connell originally graduated as a mechanical engineer from Trinity College Dublin and worked for several years in the telecommunications industry.
The work took her across most of Europe for several years before she decided to retrain in dentistry – a decision that brought her back to Ireland and to the beautiful city of Cork. She qualified from UCC after five extremely challenging, but enjoyable years, and went on to work as an associate in a number of practices around Cork city and county.
Grania set up her own practice from scratch in Cork in 2009 with the help of her husband John, where they both enjoy the challenge of building a list of loyal patients.

David Nelson
David is the Clinical Director of Cranmore and was one of the first dentists in Northern Ireland to obtain a Masters Degree in Dental Implantology. Cranmore has been appointed as the Irish Training Facility for the University of Central Lancashire, Institute of Postgraduate Dental Education Masters Programme in Implant Dentistry, with David as Lead Clinical Supervisor. In addition, David is a Tutor on dental implants at the School of Dentistry, Queen's University Belfast. In 2011 David established the Cranmore Academy which delivers a series of clinical and non-clinical study clubs for dentists.
David is on the Board of Directors for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, whilst being a Mentor and Study Club Facilitator for the International Team for Implantology.
