The winter meeting of the Irish Faculty of Primary Dental Care (IFDPC) went off with style at the end of last year. 

Held in Dublin Dental School on 19 November, the meeting brought dentists from all over the country to hear the speakers deliver their cutting-edge presentations.

The event was supported by an educational grant from DeCare Dental Insurance, continuing the company's continuing support for dental education.

Professor Paul Brunton of Leeds Dental Institute presented on new advances in caries technology, diagnosis and treatment and on tooth whitening. Dublin Dental University Hospital's Dr Michael O'Sullivan took to the stage to discuss resin bonded bridges, novel uses of composites and audit tools and techniques, and Dr Alison Dougal (also of Dublin Dental University Hospital) gave a presentation on managing medical risks in dentistry.

Dr Gerard Gavin, chief dental officer for DeCare Dental saidd: ‘We are very pleased that our funding is helping to maintain the approach of the IFPDC in securing such high calibre speakers, that bring a strong academic and research background to the problems and practicalities faced by dentists in their everyday practice of dentistry.'

DeCare's educational grant also supported the IFPDC winter education days, with a special focus on funding the attendance of up to three staff members per dental practice.

Dr Frank Ormsby, IFPDC chairman, added: ‘We're delighted that DeCare has continued its support of the IFPDC with this generous educational grant. We are a voluntary, not-for profit organisation, run by practitioners for practitioners, and this grant greatly enhances the standard of educational support that we can provide to our members.'
