According to Le Figaro, Jacques and Jessica Moretti would have taken out loans for over 6.4 million euros, a figure considered disproportionate compared to their declared monthly income. New questions in the investigation into the Crans-Montana fire
Loans for over 6.4 million euros against a declared monthly income of 10,700 euros. This is the crux that emerges from the revelations of the French newspaper Le Figaro on the accounts of Jacques and Jessica Moretti, the owners of the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, the place where a fire caused the death of 40 people on New Year’s Eve. A disproportion which, according to the newspaper, raises serious questions about the real financial sustainability of the couple.
From the documents seen and the statements made in court, it appears that the Morettis would have taken out at least five loans linked to commercial and residential properties. In detail, approximately 1.4 million euros would have been allocated to the Le Senso restaurant, 1.8 million to the Le Constellation bar, another 1.4 million to the Le Vieux Chalet restaurant and a further 1.4 million to their main home. To these would be added 400,000 euros for an apartment in Cannes. The newspaper also reports the possession of several luxury cars, a further element that contributes to outlining a lifestyle apparently at odds with the declared income.
During interrogations, Jacques and Jessica Moretti allegedly claimed to receive a total of 10,700 euros per month from the three companies attributable to them. A figure which, when compared with the size of the loans contracted, appears difficult to be compatible with and which now risks becoming a further front of investigation, parallel to that on criminal responsibility for the fire.
Meanwhile, in the last few hours, Jessica Moretti returned before the magistrates for a new interrogation, focused in particular on the security measures of the venue. A confrontation that lasted eleven hours, defined by the investigators as “minute by minute”, during which the woman reconstructed the entire sequence of events on New Year’s Eve. According to what transpires, she cried several times when talking about the fire, her husband and Cyane Panine, the twenty-four-year-old waitress who died in the fire.
Many lawyers involved in the proceedings were unable to ask all the expected questions and are hoping that new hearings will be scheduled. In the background, in addition to the already central themes of safety and responsibilities, the financial issue is becoming ever more prominent: a complex mosaic, in which the Morettis’ accounts risk becoming a key element to fully understand what was happening behind the scenes of Le Constellation.
