New developments on the case of Chiara Poggi. Searches in the houses of the semium. The former prosecutor of Pavia Mario Venditti, today president of the champion casino.
In Garlasco, the silence of the roads was broken by the dry noise of the searches. Guardia di Finanza and carabinieri knocked on the gates of the semium, of the uncles, of two former carabinieri on leave and even of the man who for years has directed the investigations on the most discussed crime of the last decades: the former Pavia prosecutor, Mario Venditti, today president of the Casino di Campione d’Italia.
The blitz in Garlasco and the shadow of Venditti
An unexpected return in the spotlight, for those who had left the toga in 2023 for the discreet limelight of the game rooms. Today his name is instead at the center of a very heavy investigation: corruption in judicial documents, with the hypothesis of having exonerated Andrea Semplio, the friend of the brother of Chiara Poggi, who ended twice under investigation and twice filed.
Everything stems from an apparently trivial detail: a sheet found in a bloc notes at the semium house during the searches of May. A few words, but burning: “Venditti”, the figure “20/30 €” and the phrase “gip archives”. A note dated to the very first of February 2017, days in which Semipio still did not know he was investigated. The prosecutor and judicial police were only known to know him. An anomaly that triggered the fuse.
The “pizzino” and suspected money movements
Investigators don’t stop there. The analyzes on family accounts reveal a lap of money already started in December 2016: 40 thousand euros passed from aunts to the uncle, up to merged on the account of the father of Semve. The suspicion, today, is that a part of that money has come out in cash to finish elsewhere. Perhaps to those who had to guarantee that everything ended quickly.
The shadows, however, do not stop at current accounts. There are also two former carabinieri, who at the time worked in the Pavia judicial police section. They are the ones who have notified the documents in Semve and transcribed some intercepted conversations. Conversations that, according to the accusation, would have been made incompletely. One of these, captured between Andrea and his father immediately after the interrogation, seems to reveal that the two already knew what the young man would have been asked. “We can suck one,” says Andrea. A stumbling block that today’s investigators seem to prove that the preliminary investigation was not so armored.
For sale, for its part, he rejects all charges. Interviewed in June he had liquidated the speed of his archives as follows: «Not after 21 days, but after 21 seconds. There was nothing. ” An sarcasm that today sounds like a double -edged sword. Because precisely that rapidity, yesterday claimed with pride, is now accused.
A crime that continues to torment Italy
His career had closed with an “institutional” assignment: in July 2023 the mayor of Campione had wanted to lead him to the casino, after the failure and reopening of the game room. But the past knocked on the strongest door of the present. The name of Venditti returns to double the crime tied to the crime that has been tormenting Garlasco for eighteen years and divides Italy.
A judicial case that seemed closed with the definitive sentence of Alberto Stasi at 16 years old, but that does not stop generating new tracks, suspicions, documents never seen. That leaflet with figures and names, suspicious transfers, wiretaps reread in hindsight: pieces that recompose a fragmented mosaic, in which the truth continues to escape.
Who killed Chiara Poggi? It is the question that resists the time and that returns today, cumbersome, among the cards of Brescia. A question that makes those who believed that the crime of via Pascoli was trembled was now delivered only to the black news books.
