Sarah J. Maas announces three new novels in the ACOTAR saga. After five years, Prythian’s fantasy universe is preparing to expand.
After five years of waiting, Sarah J. Maas returns to the center of the editorial scene with an announcement that has shaken the world of contemporary fantasy. The American writer, considered the queen of the romance genre, has revealed the arrival of three new books connected to the saga A Court of Thorns and Rosesone of the most beloved series of recent years.
The news came during a podcast interview Call Her Daddywhere Maas said he worked on a story so vast it couldn’t fit into a single volume. The project will then transform into a narrative arc composed of several parts, published at close range.
The return of a cult saga
First published in 2015, A Court of Thorns and Roses tells the story of Feyre Archeron, a young woman drawn into the world of the fae after killing a magical creature. Between political intrigue, romance and epic battles, the series has become a global phenomenon, transforming Maas into one of the best-selling fantasy authors in the world.
The five books released so far – the last in 2021, dedicated to Feyre’s sister, Nessa – have consolidated a narrative universe that mixes classic fantasy elements with intense romantic relationships and a very contemporary psychological construction.
Three new books to tell a single story
The new chapter of the saga will actually be a single story divided into several parts. The sixth book in the series will arrive on October 27, 2026, while the seventh is scheduled for January 12, 2027.
Maas explained that the narrative arc is so broad that it will be divided into several volumes: the first two will be published a few months apart, while a third book – which will complete the story – is already in the works.
At the moment the official titles have not been revealed, but some previews suggest that the plot could focus on Elain Archeon, a character who has so far remained more enigmatic than her sisters Feyre and Nesta. Among the hypothesized themes are personal autonomy, destiny and the tensions between romantic bonds and individual freedom.
A publishing empire
Sarah J. Maas has sold over 75 million copies worldwide, published in more than forty languages, and each new title is considered a global publishing event. It is no coincidence that the announcement of the new books also had immediate effects on the market: the shares of the publisher Bloomsbury rose significantly after the confirmation of the upcoming releases, a sign of how the author’s name is now a real economic engine for the book industry.
