It is the most interesting voice in Italian fashion and debuts at design week with LSS Engineering. At the center of the project is combining raw aesthetics and audio performance.
With PDF he revolutionizes fashion, involving the rap scene. Domenico Formichetti is the hottest name in Italian fashion. Two fashion shows under his belt, the last one designed as a theater piece in five acts at the Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber, now the creative director tries his hand at product design for the first time and returns to his first love, music, creating a hi-fi system, designed for furnishing. At the center of the event See how it soundscreated in collaboration with WUF | We Understand the Future, the maxi-blaster and the Subthronean armchair with integrated audio system. Among the guests, numerous names from the rap/hip-hop scene including Ghali.
Question: What is Casa Blaster about?
Answer: My first love, perhaps even before fashion, is music. From there it all started and Casa Blaster is my first functional design product. It brings with it different souls: on the one hand the sound component that LSS Engineering, an Italian company that develops and produces crazy audio installations for some of the major global clubs, services and venues, took care of for me down to the smallest details. On the other hand, the aesthetic component that I contaminated as much as possible with my vision, working the surface as I treat fabrics, overlapping, washing and bringing out their most authentic side. I believe it is an exercise that emphasizes how I perceive the historical moment in which we are living, where the image of things is the first way that allows the public to consume them. This is also why I tried to give this audio system a strong sound visual consumability…
Q: Design and fashion share many aspects, what convinced you to experiment?
A: I’ve always had the obsession of making a Ghetto Blaster and when the opportunity presented itself thanks to LSS Engineering I didn’t hold back: I couldn’t wait to make an armchair with an integrated audio system! Music, and many initiatives of this design week confirm this, is everywhere and it is right that it adopts the codes of design, after all the speakers are used to listen to it, right? And if they are made to be part of a space and not just as a function of it, that’s even better.
Q: You are the most interesting name on the Italian fashion scene, what would you recommend to those who would like to follow your path?
A: I don’t feel that way and I would like to have an answer to this question, but the truth is that there is no magic formula for standing out, just as there is no right way to do it. The only advice I can give is to insist, insist and insist again…
Q: What are your next projects?
A: There is the fashion show in June, but I can’t say anything in advance…
