Referees investigation, what’s in Rocchi’s interception on Inter

The content of the interception between Rocchi and Gervasoni adds details to the investigation that is shaking Italian football. Here is what Inter would have been under pressure to have welcome referees

An outburst on the phone without imagining being intercepted. On the other hand, the right-hand man and supervisor at VAR, Andrea Gervasoni, the man who collected the words of the former designator Gianluca Rocchi in April 2025. The content of the interception is outlined at the center of the most interesting sporting thread on the referee system and a detail of no small importance is added because, according to what the Corriere della Serathe telephone calls on Rocchi and a few others lasted a few weeks but were interrupted last summer as the investigating judge stopped authorizing them to the Prosecutor’s Office having achieved no results.

Therefore, the interception at the basis of the double charge against Rocchi, which contests the sporting fraud involved in having given Inter welcome referees at the end of last season, contains a dialogue with Gervasoni. Rocchi reports that “they” really don’t want referee Doveri and, as Corriere della Sera reports, the referee is almost annoyed by this stance he apparently took upon meeting someone at San Siro on 2 April 2025 on the occasion of the Coppa Italia derby with Milan.

No certainty as to who Rocchi’s interlocutor was

Who? The Prosecutor’s Office does not have certain proof and evidently did not find it in the following weeks of wiretaps, which at a certain point were no longer authorized by the judge. Nor did it have any confirmation in the dozens of depositions collected by Rocchi’s major accusers or by those who, like Doveri and Colombo, were called to the Prosecutor’s Office. In the phone call reference is made to a certain “Giorgio” who, by intuition, should be Giorgio Schenone who is the Club Referee Manager of the Nerazzurri club, a figure responsible for maintaining relations with the refereeing sector.

In any case, the hypothesis of the crime of sports fraud in competition remains with unidentified persons, at least for now. Could “they” expressly say who to designate and who not? Technically the answer is no, a visit which does not fall within the duties of the Club Referee Manager or even of clubs in the broad sense. And that it is forbidden to speak with the designator as there is a delegate to maintain relations with the managers. However, the sports news is full of outbursts against a referee and have often forced the referees to avoid new matches for a long time, even if only for reasons of opportunity.

Furthermore, the unwelcome Doveri was sent to manage the Nerazzurri both in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final (as per the alleged request) and in Parma the following day of the championship for a total of five seasonal appearances and has started again this year, refereeing many of Inter’s top matches. Is it enough to identify a sports fraud with repercussions on the rankings? The answer will have to be given by the FIGC Prosecutor’s Office who has already asked for the papers in Milan and who must wait for the moment in which the prosecutor Ascione considers his investigative activity closed and decides to send them.
