An avalanche broke out at 1,650 meters on Monte Corvo, one of the main peaks of the Gran Sasso, almost completely destroying the Rifugio del Monte, one of the many included in the Sentiero Italia, the 8,000 kilometer route that crosses the entire Peninsula. The news was given by Luigi Servi, mayor of Fano Adriano, a small town in the province of Teramo. “It could have been a Rigopiano-bis – he said -, by pure chance at that moment there was no one either in the refuge or in the surrounding area”. The structure, born as a refreshment for shepherds during transhumance and now owned by the municipal administration, has had various managements over the years (source Ansa Video).
