The new 1.3 billion Automotive Prime Ministerial Decree has been unlocked: Ecobonuses for scooters, electric motorbikes and commercial vehicles are back. There is also news on social rental for those with an ISEE under 30 thousand euros
The bonus for vans and motorbikes is arriving. The government reignites incentives for sustainable mobility and the renewal of the fleet. After almost a year, the new Automotive Prime Ministerial Decree has been released, which puts over 1.3 billion euros on the table for the automotive supply chain, businesses and consumers. And this includes the incentive for the purchase of electric or hybrid commercial vehicles, scooters, motorcycles and quadricycles.
Electric motorbike and scooter bonuses: how the Ecobonus works
The motorcycle bonus concerns L category vehicleswhich includes: electric scooters; hybrid motorcycles; light and heavy mopeds and quadricycles. To access the measure, go through the Ecobonus platform, already reopened from 18 March 2026 for participating retailers. How does it work? The dealer books the contribution and applies the discount directly to the final price of the vehicle. The customer, therefore, does not have to submit an independent application. Before signing the contract though It is essential to check some aspects. First of all, that the chosen model is among those eligible for incentives and that the dealer is enabled for the platform. It is also a good idea to make sure that the available funds are not exhausted and that the contribution is clearly shown on the invoice. The contribution is calculated as a percentage of the purchase price (from 30% to 40%), depending on whether or not you have an old vehicle to scrap. You can get up to 4 thousand euros if you have an old vehicle to retire on.
Van bonus 2026: who is entitled to it and which vehicles are allowed
Then there are incentives for commercial vehicles intended for the transport of goods, aimed above all at small and medium-sized businesses that operate in logistics, deliveries, crafts and services.. The bonus concerns N1 categories(mass up to 3.5 tons) e N2 (mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes and up to 12 tonnes), i.e. commercial vehicles used for the transport of goods. An important condition concerns the power supply of the vehicle. Battery or fuel cell electric vehicles can access the incentive even without scrapping. For other fuels, however, the demolition of an old vehicle may be necessary. To obtain the bonus in addition to the vehicle requirements (categories N1 or N2), the purchase must be made through dealers participating in the Ecobonus platform; the contribution must appear directly on the purchase invoice and companies will have to maintain ownership of the vehicle for at least 24 months. As with the motorcycle bonus, in this case too it is the dealer who must apply on the platform.
Social car rental: incentive for those with ISEE under 30 thousand euros
There is also something new in the decree regarding long-term social rental. The measure is intended for citizens with an ISEE of less than 30 thousand euros who decide to scrap an old car up to Euro 4 and activate a long rental. The public contribution in this case does not finance the purchase of the car but reduces the cost of the long-term rental contract. To access the benefit you must have a series of documents: updated ISEE; documents of the vehicle to be scrapped and documentation required by the rental company. Final operating instructions have yet to be published.
How to apply for the van and motorbike bonus
For motorbikes and vans, therefore, the procedure passes through the dealer or reseller. You choose the vehicle; the availability of funds is verified; you make sure you book the bonus on the Ecobonus platform and you get the discount directly on your invoice. For commercial vehicles, companies must have ready: company certificate; tax data; documentation of the vehicle and any scrapping procedure. For motorbikes and scooters, however, it will be necessary to check approval, power supply and residual availability of resources.
