Goodbye do you recommend? Tax bills and tax notifications arrive directly on your smartphone

Tax bills and tax justice documents arrive on the IO App. Here’s how the new notifications on smartphones will work and what changes for citizens, professionals and businesses.

The Italian Public Administration takes a new step towards digitalisation and aims directly at citizens’ smartphones. After digital documents, payments and institutional communications, App IO is preparing to become the main channel through which to also receive tax notifications and communications related to tax justice.

An innovation destined to have a much wider impact than it might seem at first glance. It does not only concern those who have an open dispute with the tax authorities, but potentially millions of Italians who already use the application to access public services, receive notices from the Public Administration or make payments via pagoPA.

Tax process notifications arrive directly on your mobile phone

The first novelty is already a reality. Thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Tax Justice and PagoPA, users can receive communications relating to tax proceedings on their smartphone without having to continuously check dedicated portals or wait for traditional communications.

Through App IO it will be possible to be informed in real time on the filing of sentences, orders and jurisdictional provisions, on the dates of hearings and on any requests for documentary integration or updates relating to the file. A particularly useful function for professionals such as lawyers, accountants and tax consultants, but also for taxpayers involved in tax appeals and disputes.

The objective is to reduce the risk of losing important communications and simplify the monitoring of practices, avoiding repeated access to online tax justice portals.

Tax bills are also arriving on App IO

The innovation that is attracting the most attention, however, concerns the integration of tax bills and communications from the Revenue Agency.

In accordance with the provisions of the tax administration’s digitalisation programmes, a system is being developed that will allow taxpayers to receive information relating to tax debts, payment slips and other communications via the IO App, which are currently mainly delivered via certified e-mail, registered mail or other traditional channels.

The objective is to make the relationship between citizens and the tax authorities more immediate, speeding up the delivery of information and centralizing communications in a single platform already used daily by millions of people.

What will concretely change for citizens

From a practical point of view, the most obvious change will be the timeliness of information. Instead of having to periodically check the PEC, consult different portals or wait for a paper communication, users will receive push notifications directly on their mobile device.

This could translate into greater awareness of tax deadlines, the ability to intervene more quickly in the event of disputes and a reduction in the risk of forgetting important deadlines for appeals, payments or installment requests.

For professionals and businesses the advantage could be even more significant, thanks to more efficient management of practices and a reduction in the time dedicated to checking the various IT systems of the Public Administration.

IO app increasingly central in the digital life of Italians

The integration of tax notifications represents only the latest piece of a broader strategy that aims to transform App IO into the single access point to Italian public services.

The application already allows you to receive communications from public bodies, make payments via pagoPA and store digital documents through the IT Wallet. With the arrival of tax justice notifications and, in the future, tax bills, the role of the app becomes even more central in the daily relationship between citizens and the State.
