Work is being done on the Aduo in Maranello but the FIA’s decision risks further widening the gap with Antonelli
There is an objective fact that emerges unequivocally from the first part of the Formula 1 season: Ferrari’s engine is less powerful than that of Red Bull and Mercedes and on the straights the Reds lose at least three tenths of a second to their rivals. And then there are the revelations from the International Federation and here everything changes. The evaluation concerns exclusively the internal combustion engine and does not consider the contribution of the electrical component of the single-seater power unit Formula 1. A parameter that has generated various doubts and which could significantly impact the development opportunities granted to the various manufacturers. However, the situation remains awaiting official confirmation via press release, which did not arrive also due to the observations presented by Red Bull. If the data were to be ratified, the team would find itself in the least favorable position to intervene on the engine, while Mercedes And Ferrari they could take advantage of additional development margins which however do not make Maranello happy.
Antonelli takes advantage of it
The situation benefits the world championship leader Kimi Antonelli and disappoints Ferrari who hoped to be able to recover thanks to the use of Aduo, in reality the Maranello company will be able to make two changes to the engine this season and the same in 2027; but Mercedes, which is already faster than the Reds, will also be able to intervene. The improvements for Leclerc and Hamilton should come from the Austrian Grand Prix at the end of June and in Maranello they are already working on it, but the prospects before this FIA check were different and no one could expect that Mercedes could have a chance to improve further.
