The leader of Futuro Nazionale reveals to his troops the strategy for the agreement with the center-right and to send the broad field into disarray.
Roberto Vannacci, someone who knows war well, with all the atrocities it entails, and who precisely for this reason hates it, is perfectly applying the necessary harmony of strategy and tactics in his political action, where the first is the long-term plan that defines the general direction and the objectives to be achieved and the second is the set of short-term actions used to execute that plan on the field. Vannacci looks to tomorrow and also looks to 2029, when the mandate of Sergio Mattarella to the presidency of the Republic and the next Parliament will have to elect his successor. Well: as far as Truth knows, in some conversations with his people, Vannacci has anticipated what he will answer to those who ask him who would see well at the Quirinale: Giorgia Meloni.
That’s right: Vannacci studied this move to disarticulate the opposing camp, i.e. the centre-left, and to make potential centre-right allies understand that he is ready, with his parliamentary troops, to support what would be a real political revolution for Italy and for the whole of Europe: for the first time a female head of the Italian State, the woman who was also the first to sit at Palazzo Chigi, and who will also have established (excusations permitted) the record of leader of the most long-lived in the history of the Republic.
A disruptive strategy to secure the Quirinale and disarm the centre-left
The proposal would send the centre-left into a tailspin, which in recent weeks has painted Vannacci as the dangerous extremist who should not be allowed to be decisive in the election of Mattarella’s successor. Proposing Meloni, appreciated at a European and international level, would silence any (instrumental) cry of pain from the Italian left. At the same time, the prospect cannot help but entice the Italian centre-right: Meloni has amply demonstrated that she is capable of maintaining a high consensus among the majority and the government, despite the many slips of second rows and supporting actors.
Of course, at that point the question would arise of who to propose as prime minister in Giorgia’s place: there is no shortage of names, some are already circulating, but we will see at the right time. So far the strategy: from a tactical point of view, Vannacci’s move is equally shrewd, because if you want to seize the opportunity of having a right-wing President of the Republic for the first time in 80 years, you need to win the elections. And to win them, you cannot ignore an alliance with National futureconsidering that (you will see) the centre-left will find a way to set up an alliance and indicate a leader, precisely because the next Parliament will elect the head of state, and the current opposition cannot afford the luxury of showing up at the starting whistle of the political match knowing that they have already lost due to personalism and internal divisions, as happened in 2022. It is no coincidence that the declarations of the leading exponents of Brothers of Italy And Forza Italia on the hypothesis of an alliance with Vannacci they become less and less cold hour after hour, and not because of the high temperatures: if Paris is worth a mass, Rome is very well worth a general in coalition.
The rift of the League and the bitterness of Matteo Salvini
AND Matteo Salvini? The deputy prime minister is understandably disappointed and embittered by Vannacci, and yesterday, speaking in Milano Marittima at an event of the Youth League, he repeated it clearly: «Vannacci? I don’t hold a grudge. It’s more of a human than political disappointment towards him”, said Salvini, “it lasts a few hours then we look ahead. Given that we opened the doors of our home to him and gave him our honor, our history and our past, seeing him take back all this openness in the space of a few weeks, by a man in uniform who theoretically should have grown up in the name of respect for the word, ideals and knowing how to work as a team, was a disappointment. He will do what he feels like doing. Have I heard from him again? No, you fool me once, but you don’t fool me the second time. And if at their conferences they greet each other and welcome each other as comrades”, he adds, “I prefer the days of the Youth League, where there are girls and boys who are friends, compatriot brothers, autonomists”. Ok, but what about the possibility of a policy agreement? «We will arrive», argues Salvini, «with this alliance: evidently not with Vannacci to date. He voted against the House plan and if he thinks we are failures now I don’t think he will change his mind in a year.”
«Not today», «I don’t think he will change his mind in a year»: Salvini essentially does not rule out an agreement with Vannacci and leaves the final decision to the general. Finally, the electoral campaign: «Will I lead the next campaign? There is always the otherworldly variable”, jokes the deputy prime minister, “it cannot be established by a congress, if health allows it, absolutely yes. The strength of Alloy has always been, and always will be, the team. It won’t be a solitary electoral campaign, captains are needed but troops are also needed, because captains or generals or colonels, without motivated, determined and proud troops, don’t go anywhere. So from Luca Zaia, Massimiliano Fedriga, to the mayors and governors I expect them all, not behind but alongside, to win. I will lead the League for another three years. If I win, would I like to be Minister of the Interior? I like to get things done, in this legislature I’m going to close all the construction sites. If we win, yes.”
