Sinner, masterpiece at Wimbledon Beats Zverev and that’s five Slams

A very tough match against the German who has raised his level again, Jannik suffers but doesn’t give up and triumphs in four sets. Sixth title of the season and thirtieth in his career

We have an extraordinary champion, a source of pride for all of Italy in sport and beyond. No Italian had ever won at Wimbledon until last year, Jannik Sinner did it twice in a rowor. A feat achieved only nine other times in the prestigious All England Club. For a tennis player there is nothing more than winning on London grass, think what it means to win twice in a row. This time too Sinner won in four sets, like last year against Carlos Alcaraz. And he had an equally strong opponent in front of him: Alexander Zverev from tomorrow he will be number two in the world and he played the first two sets in an incredible way. Monstrous service percentages, impossible for Sinner to try to respond, unthinkable to hypothesize how to break the German. Zverev unleashed a forehand of the highest level and almost always winning, Sinner was almost never able to dominate the game. But he remained attached to the gamehe never gave up, he wasn’t depressed when Zverev won the first set in the tie-break, he fought head to head with his incredible opponent and then in the second set tie-break he changed gear. That was the turning point of the match, Jannik understood that Zverev was no longer unplayable and when he finally managed to start the exchange, the opportunities for the break in the third set arrived. At 4-3 in his favor and after canceling a break point in the previous game Sinner has the opportunity and exploits it despite a slip on the slippery grass, but he gets up like Alberto Tomba did in the snow when he ended up sitting on the ground and yet got back on his feet. Decisive break, Jannik wins 6-3 and takes a set lead. Those expecting a collapse from Zverev in the fourth set, however, are disappointed: Sascha doesn’t give up an inch until the score is 3-3. It’s Jannik who changes pace, he places the break and then serves for the match at 5-4. No distractions, but Zverev is attached to the match until 30-all, Jannik takes Wimbledon in his own way and can go and hug his family and his team. An Italian is rewriting the history of tennis.

“The most beautiful place to play tennis”

After the last point Jannik is overwhelmed by emotions: he goes to hug everyone, thanks the public: “This is the most beautiful place to play tennis”. Then he collects the trophy and says: “It’s difficult to talk now because after Paris we worked a lot, endless days. I’m giving my whole life for this sport, winning here at Wimbledon is incredible, I never thought I could do it. I’m super happy about this. At this moment in Italy there is an incredible movement throughout sport, Cobolli, Berrettini, Kimi. We are all young people who want to give one hundred percent and I am happy to be among them”. A chat with the royal family, compliments from Minister Abodi and then the crowds from the Wimbledon terrace. Just like a year ago.
