Leo A scene of spontaneous enthusiasm, immortalized by dozens of telephones and accompanied by the emotion of the very young people, who arrived in Assisi to participate in the final meeting of the GO! Franciscan Youth Meeting.
The pastoral visit of 6 August was organized on the occasion of the eighth centenary of the Transit of Saint Francis and included the Pope’s meeting with young people and the celebration of Mass in the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, one of the most significant places of Franciscan spirituality.
Even before the words and the celebration, however, the images of the arrival told the meaning of the day: the Pope immersed among the children, the direct contact with the crowd and that wall of smartphones which, for a few minutes, transformed the square of the Basilica into the meeting point between the ancient Franciscan Assisi and a new generation of faithful.
