Why doesn’t Elly Schlein speak anymore? From outbursts about democracy at risk to embarrassed silence: political questions about the attitude of the Dem leader.
Agree, Siegfried Ranucci he’s the victim of that bullshitter Valter Lavitola. But this can cancel out the fact that for years the conductor of Reports he allowed himself to be led by the nose by a swindler who, in addition to making him believe that he could become the new leader of the wide field, also made him plant a bomb under his house in order to increase his popularity? To defend him, on Fatto Quotidiano, Marco Travaglio he was quick to report the words of the investigating judge who ordered Lavitola’s arrest, clarifying that the journalist and his family are the injured party in this matter and that Ranucci is also “the victim of the suspect’s manipulation”.
But can an information professional who aims to reveal secrets and lies through public service allow himself to be manipulated by a multiple convicted felon, who not only makes him believe he has a political future ahead of him, but also misleads him after the attack, to the point that together they go over the weak points of the accusation against Lavitola himself? In the end, even the director of Il Fatto is forced to admit that “Ranucci was certainly naive”.
The lure of power and dangerous relationships
Of course, it can happen that you fall prey to a cheater disguised as a gentleman, but if in front of you you have a person who has made a living out of cheating, who has betrayed his friends, ending up under investigation for extortion, bribes, criminal association and buying and selling senators, it cannot be said that, by associating with him and confiding in him, you are naive, unless you believe that the victim is something much more than naive. I don’t know how to define Ranucci: reckless, reckless or self-harming.
The fact is that anyone who had heard of Lavitola’s criminal record would have thought for a long time before considering him a “true friend” with whom to share evenings eating fish, to whom one could entrust one’s most secret thoughts and reveal aspirations and confidential documents. Did the Report host do it? And after thinking about the possible risks he would have taken by having a personal relationship – mind you, not a professional one – with a known criminal, what did you conclude?
The doubts about the host and the weight of the admissions
That is, when Ranucci heard the other tell him that he would become prime minister, that he would soon walk the corridors of Palazzo Chigi and that he would sweep away the other competitors in the wide field, did he ever suspect that Lavitola was titillating his ego for the sole purpose of profiting?
Here, these are the questions I would like to ask Siegfried. You have conducted reports for years, you have reported scandals and challenged powerful people, and then you were made a fool of by someone who made you believe that millions of Italians were ready to elect you Prime Minister. Indeed, perhaps even head of state, so he can make his end-of-year speech. Did you really fall into the trap of a scoundrel who, after having been disqualified by years in prison, had every interest in qualifying himself as your friend? Dear Siegfried, you are right to complain and to say that your family members suffer because they see a professional who, after a bomb and thirty years of sacrifices, is overwhelmed by a wave of mud, but who put himself in this situation? Unfortunately, you know the answer, if even those who defended you until yesterday, like Walter VeriniPD group leader in the anti-mafia commission, today admit through gritted teeth that “certain relationships are serious”.
From impressive exits to silence: the PD’s embarrassment
And speaking of the Democratic Party, why Elly Schlein is silent? On 18 October last year, while the attack was still hot, the secretary with three passports, in front of the PSE congress in Amsterdam, said: «I want to express my solidarity with Sigfrido Ranucci, because yesterday a bomb was found in front of his house. Democracy is at risk, freedom of expression is at risk when the far right is in government.” Even at the time, when neither the perpetrators nor the instigator of the attack were yet known, it seemed like a serious stretch, moreover done in front of an international audience. And now, given that there is no risk to democracy and freedom of expression, because Ranucci practically had the enemy at home, what does Schlein do? Shut up. Apart from having found time for the usual accusations against Meloni, no one had the pleasure of listening to her regarding Ranucci. Neither radio, nor TV nor even newspapers have reported his thoughts, but we are certain that tomorrow or perhaps the day after tomorrow he will make himself available. And we too would have a question to ask you: was she naive to believe in the political path or just unscrupulous, because she thought that by speaking badly about the Italian situation in an international forum she would benefit from it?
