Poker of goals for the Germans in the Como area’s first time in the Europe that counts. Fabregas can smile: by playing like this, qualification for the second phase is possible.
It couldn’t have gone better than this. A dream night to present themselves to the Europe of the greats, Leipzig overwhelmed and the first three points won on the difficult road that must take Cesc Fabregas’ team beyond the group stage. If the premises are those of the match against the Germans, much more experienced in terms of attending the Champions League but swept away by the Larian fury, the feat of landing in the spring while still in the running is possible. Not just utopia.
A Como symphony was staged at the Sinigallia, conducted by Fabregas. More than the very high quality of the game and the intensity of the physical performance, now a trademark, the absolute absence of emotion and shyness despite being on a stage never attended before is surprising. Como disposed of Leipzig as and when they wanted, alternately accelerating and controlling, leaving very little space for the Germans.
If for two years the cover man was Nico Paz, still excellent, now it is Martin Baturina who takes the spotlight at Como. He had already done it in the championship, but the first half with Leipzig was like an absolute champion: he took the lead and then the surgical and visionary assist for Douvikas’s second. Diao and Perrone were the other scorers with a goal from Maksimovic who took advantage of one of the very rare errors of a defense accustomed to conceding little and which has not lost its good habit even in the Champions League.
Modern, difficult to read, bold and perfect in its mechanisms: Fabregas’ game presented itself like this in the tournament of tournaments and from this poker to his debut with Leipzig nothing will ever be the same as before. If anyone around Europe hadn’t understood it, Como is a damned serious thing, a very tough nut to crack for anyone starting with PSG and Barcelona who are on the Como team’s path.
If it is true that 8-9 points are needed to qualify at least for the playoffs, Sinigallia’s victory brings the finish line closer. The Montecarlo urn was not kind to Como, but the response was a great team. Side note: the first week of the Champions League gave Serie A a single victory, for the latest arrival, but it is best not to overdo pessimism because the seeds of an interesting job were also seen in Inter’s performance at the Bernabeu and in Roma’s first half in Istanbul.
