Lotito and the plan to force him to sell Lazio, new investigation by the Rome Prosecutor’s Office

Months of attacks and news that later turned out to be false to force the owner to get rid of the club: the magistrates suspect a single director. Searches for the leaders of Banca del Fucino and Luigi Bisignani.

Is there a unified and coordinated direction behind the campaign to push Claudio Lotito to get rid of Lazio? This is the question that the Rome Prosecutor’s Office is trying to answer with an investigation which, after starting from the analysis of the “Libera la Lazio” banners, the threatening phone calls and the social posts which were the subject of complaints by the Biancoceleste patron in recent months, has now raised the level by also involving finance and communication circles.

The news is that searches were carried out on the top management of Fucino Bank and of Luigi Bisignani by the Carabinieri of the Rome Investigation Unit on the orders of the deputy prosecutor Giuseppe Cascini and the prosecutors Lucia Lotti and Lorenzo Del Giudice. Objective: to get your hands on phones, computers, chats, emails and documents in your possession Mauro Masipresident of the credit institution, Francesco MaioliniCEO, and Bisignani who has written a series of articles in the newspaper since last June Time to analyze the corporate situation of Lazio.

The Prosecutor’s Office thinks that it was a coordinated strategy to push Lotito to sell the club also through the publication of false news relating to Lotito’s alleged negotiations with funds or other subjects interested in taking over his sharesjoining with the popular protest that emptied the Olympic stadium and which continues this season too. The turning point would have arisen from the previous trend, once it emerged that some “disparaging” social activities towards Lotito would have been financed by Maiolini. From here, the leap in quality.

The Rome Prosecutor’s Office reasons on the hypothesis of a common direction which would also explain the series of articles that appeared on Time signed by Bisignani starting from last May 2026: writings in which Lotito is invited to sell the company and an offer of JpMorgan of 450 million dollars apparently without evidence. The magistrates found traces of frequent contacts between Bisignani and the top management of the Banca del Fucino, often shortly after the publication of the articles in the Roman newspaper. Just a fortuitous circumstance? This is the question they are trying to answer through the analysis of the material seized during the searches.

The club is listed on the stock exchange and according to the magistrates the dissemination of unverified news and the pressure campaign to have it put up for sale would have caused “a significant alteration in the price of the shares”. The investigation hypothesizes the crime of stock manipulation in Lazio.

Since June 2025, Claudio Lotito, now disliked by the vast majority of Lazio fans, has denounced a defamatory campaign against him, including phone calls with death threats in the event of failure to sell the company. The Rome Prosecutor’s Office has been working on this dossier for months. Now a new phase to verify whether there is a single direction and possibly who the principals are.
