Peter Gabriel returns with o\i, the new album between future and nature

Thirteen songs, some matured over decades, arrive in two mixes: Bright-Side and Dark-Side.

It will be released on November 27, 2026 oi, Peter Gabriel’s new album: thirteen songs which, together with the twelve of I (2023), complete a 25-song joint project. The album, written and produced by Gabriel, was recorded primarily at Real World Studios and the artist’s home studio. As often happens in his work, he combines recent compositions with songs that have been in progress for years, sometimes decades.

«Songs are a mix of thoughts and feelings. I’m thinking about the future and how we might respond to you. We are entering an unprecedented transition phase, likely triggered by three waves: artificial intelligence, quantum computing and the brain-computer interface. Artists have the task of peering into the fog and, when they glimpse something, placing a mirror in front of us» says Gabriel.

The reflection expands on the place of the human being in nature: «We are not, and have never been, completely autonomous and independent beings, capable of self-determination as we imagine. We have cultivated the belief that everything exists for our benefit, as if we had been entrusted with the world with carte blanche to exploit it as we pleased. We are something else: part of nature, part of everything. When we feel this connection, shake our hips a little, give and receive love, we can find our place in the world and smile.”

“Sometimes things take time,” he adds. «Most people do things much faster, but I have no difficulty understanding my way of working. Some mature and evolve spontaneously; others remain hidden in a box until their time comes to see the light.”

Long-time collaborators play on many tracks David Rhodes on guitar, Tony Levin on bass and Manu Katché on drums. With them are Richard Evans, Josh Shpak and Don E, members of the tour lineup of Iand Real World contributors Faye Dolle and Katie May.
