Pensions 2027, rates and deductions: how to request the change from INPS from today

From 15 October pensioners can ask INPS to withhold more IRPEF from next year’s check. Here’s what changes and who it can benefit

From today, 15 October, pensioners can choose how the INPS will tax the 2027 check. You can ask for a higher Irpef rate than the ordinary one or waive, in whole or in part, the deductions. The indications are in the INPS message n. 3245 of 13 October 2026. It is not an obligation and does not concern everyone: it is useful for those who, in addition to their pension, have other income and want to avoid unpleasant surprises when submitting their tax return.

Because pensioners can ask for more Irpef during the year

INPS taxes the check as if it were the pensioner’s only income. The Irpef, however, is calculated on the total income. Those who also have another pension, the income from a rented house or a collaboration find themselves with a higher overall income, and therefore with heavier taxation. Each month the withholding remains the one calculated on the pension only. The bill arrives later, with the tax return: the difference must be paid immediately or in installments. Asking to withhold more month by month serves to spread the amount over the entire year.

Higher rate or waiver of deductions: the two options

You can choose just one option or both. The first is to ask INPS to apply a higher percentage each month than that expected for your income bracket. The second is to renounce income deductions, i.e. discounts that reduce the tax, in whole or in part. I am two different paths: in the first case the tax percentage increases, in the second the discounts are reduced. In both cases the net monthly pension decreases, but the end-of-year balance should be less burdensome.
Be careful though. Anyone who receives a check instead of a salary (for example because they have stopped working) or while waiting for a pension must do a further check. If you choose one of the two options, INPS does not apply the tax advantages provided for by the 2025 budget law on its own. They are not lost: they can be recovered with the tax return. In practice, the benefit arrives later, not in your envelope every month.

How to apply and who doesn’t have to do anything

The request can be made online on the INPS website, with the “Declaration for the right to tax deductions for income and family dependents” service. It is valid only for the year to which it referstherefore it must be redone every year, even by those who have already sent it in the past. Those who live only on a pension do not have to do anythinga: INPS continues to apply ordinary rates and deductions. Before deciding, it is best to estimate your total income for the year. For a precise calculation you can contact a Caf or a patronage.

Dependent children: to be reported also with the single allowance

Through the same portal you can also indicate your dependent children for tax purposes, even if you receive the single and universal allowance. In this way the data is correct in the 2027 Single Certification, the document with which the INPS communicates income and taxes for the year, and the expenses for the children already appear in the pre-compiled declaration.
