Alcaraz’s former coach would like to coach Jannik, while Gilbert reveals that the Australian coach is not informed promptly about the injury
The silence around the condition of the knee of Jannik Sinner and the uncertainty of the world number one’s return to the field (who will lose the scepter at the end of November in favor of Aleksander Zverev) is creating a circuit with media interventions of all kinds. The only certainty is that Sinner will not return to the field until the new year, the date has not yet been revealed and to heal the knee the Sesto Pusteria tennis player’s staff has chosen conservative therapy. But since the recovery time is not known, nor the extent of the damage to the knee, every day the intervention of former tennis players or coaches fuels the gossip about Sinner.
Ferrero is applying
Continue to be talked about Juan Carlos Ferrero who despite his distance from the fields remains one of the most discussed figures of recent times. The Spanish coach, after separating from Carlos Alcaraz, has in fact opened up to other possibilities, not excluding the possibility of coaching his direct rivals in particular Jannik Sinner in the future. In a long interview with AS he said: “Sinner is a spectacular player. I think he has already shown that, when he is at his best, he is very difficult to beat. We know this well, also thanks to Carlos. If it ever happens in the future, I have already said that I understand that people, especially the Spanish, might be upset, in the sense that they might see it as if I were going against Carlos and what he is capable of achieving. But, ultimately, I think that I too am trying to grow as a coach and, if an opportunity of this magnitude arises, I think that the people should understand that. I won’t go against anyone, least of all against Carlos. But let the opportunity arise with Sinner or with another it will still be about confronting someone. I hope people can understand it.”
Gilbert’s backstory
And then there is Brad Gilbertformer world number 4 and historic coach of Roddick and Agassi, as well as a great friend of Darren Cahill who during the BigT podcast in the company of Andrea Petkovic said: “I’ve talked a lot with Cahill lately. He told me that it all started while he was traveling to Los Angeles airport to catch a flight to Cincinnatiwhere he was supposed to meet with Jannik. At the last minute, however, he received a phone call informing him that Sinner would not participate in the tournament. Since then he has been waiting for news. It’s an extremely frustrating situation.” Cahill’s contract (extended for a year after his Wimbledon victory in 2025) expires at the end of the current season and, in light of these revelations, there is no certainty that the Australian will still be in the blue box upon his return in 2027 or for the first Slam of the year in Australia.
