The DJI OSMO Pocket 4P arrives in Pearl White version: dual 20 and 60 mm cameras, 4K at 240 fps, gimbal and audio synchronized with DJI Mic. What it promises, how much it costs and where it stumbles, after trying it in the field.
Only two hundred and thirty grams and dimensions slightly larger than a smartphone. Inside the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P we find two objectives, a one inch sensor and a mechanical gimbal that holds the frame still while you move. White is the news, but not the reason it’s talked about. The 4P is DJI’s pocketable with the dual cameraand for those who create content themselves it is a change of pace: fewer accessories in your bag, more choices made before pressing rec.
Twenty sixty
The first objective is a 20mm equivalent (f/2.0) on one inch sensor: environments, streets, vlogs at arm’s length. The second is a 60 mm (f/1.8) with 3x optical zoomwhich reaches 12x digitally. This is where the 4P distances itself from the telephone: the background is blurred by optics, not by software, and the shots while talking in the camera, the daily bread of those who work on social media, finally have a character.
The transition from one lens to another lasts about half a second. Anyone who looks carefully notices a small difference in color and exposure, typical of multi-optical systems. Up to 6x the quality remains good, at 12x the drop is visible but it is less brutal than expected.
Horizontal and vertical
A single device for 16:9 YouTube and 9:16 Reel and TikTok: you choose the format and turn it aroundwithout taking a second car with you. THE’ActiveTrack 8.0 keeps people, vehicles and animals attached, convenient when there is no one behind the camera.
The 2-inch display reaches 1,000 nits, so it can be read well even in bright light. A non-trivial detail needs fixing (perhaps with a software update): in portrait mode the zoom button disappears from the screen, precisely the format in which many will use it the most.
The sound
On this ground the 4P thinks like a serious tool. It acts as a direct receiver for microphones DJI Mic: the audio arrives already synchronized with the video, the level is checked on the screen and connecting takes a few seconds. No cables, no separate recorder, no assembly alignment.
OsmoAudio microphones, sold separately, are also compatible. How the integrated capsule sounds, however, the technical data sheet does not tell: for professional work it is better to focus on the external.
The image
Video up to 4K at 240 frames per second (slow motion up to 8x), 37 megapixel photos, 10 bit and D-Log 2 profile for those who love working with color in post. The sensor with LOFIC technology states 17 stops of dynamic range: with sky and shadows in the same scene the lights hold up.
The limits must be stated. The D-Log 2 works only with the main camera, without zoom and without slow motion, and lacks zebra and histogram. Those who hoped for 6K remain at 4K. However, we are always talking about a prosumer devicethe tare must always be done considering the product you have in hand.
Battery and equipment
Declared autonomy of 210 minutesrecharge from zero to 80% in 18 minutes, 103 GB of internal memory plus microSD, transfer via USB 3.1 up to 800 MB/s. In practice, 4K at 60 fps, hyperlapse and slow motion drain it faster, and for long days the battery grip (sold separately) is a sensible purchase. In the Standard Combo there is a fill light, handle with 1/4″ connection, strap and case, all white.
The Osmo ecosystem
Osmo Pocket 4P in pearl white integrates seamlessly with the DJI accessory ecosystem. This edition is compatible with the Osmo Pocket4 fill light, premium ND and polarizing filters, wide-angle lens adapters, battery handle, and OsmoAudio microphones, all sold separately. This ecosystem approach allows creators to build custom rigs tailored to their production needs, whether shooting solo or managing complex multi-camera setups.
Which is not entirely convincing
The five-way joystick alternates movement and zoom with an on-screen icon, and it is not a model of intuitiveness. The configuration is a little biased towards the top. The remote control, which is supplied with the competitor, is purchased separately here.
