After years spent indicating where to watch, JustWatch launches its streaming service in Italy too: free films and series with advertising, a Plus formula without commercials and a catalog of around 210 titles. With the alternatives already available, from RaiPlay to Pluto TV.
For twelve years JustWatch has told you where to watch a movie without showing a frame of it. Now, even in Italy, it goes directly to streaming: is called JustWatchTV and it’s free (with advertising). A small countertrend, in times of subscriptions to be added to one another.
What is JustWatch TV
JustWatch was born as search engine: write a title, find out which platform it is on. It has 50 million users worldwide. The new service lives inside the existing app and site, therefore no additional installations, and debuts in ten markets, including Italy. “And it’s just the beginning,” said the founder and CEO David Croye.
The declared ambition is not to replace Netflix or Disney+ but to support them. The central element of the service remains the search engine.
How it works
There are three formulas. JustWatch TV Free offers a selection of free films and series, interrupted by commercials (the AVOD model, the same as Pluto TV). JustWatch TV Plus it removes advertising and costs 3.99 euros per month, with a lifetime formula for the most convinced. JustWatch TV Store it is the rental of recent titles: the Italian times are not clear and the sources do not agree. It can be watched from browsers, smartphones and apps for Android TV and Google TV, LG webOS, Roku and Apple TV.
At launch the free catalog has approximately 210 titlesbetween cult films and series of different genres. Among the first available, Birdman and Fight Club. The contents come from partners such as Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle and Bleecker Street. The declared objective is to exceed 300 in the coming months.
Free alternatives
JustWatch TV arrives on already cultivated ground. RaiPlay it is in all probability the best free platform in Italy today. The entire catalog is free, there is no subscription, just register. It has live broadcasts from Rai channels and an archive for every type of audience, from fiction to documentaries to cartoons, and a free app that works well on any device, from smartphones to TVs. Il Paradiso delle Signore (eleventh season, from the 7th) and the new episodes of the fourth season of DOC – In your hands (from the 24th) returned in September.
Pluto TVby Paramount, has been in Italy since 28 October 2021 and imitates the TV of the past: over 100 linear channels turned on all day, many dedicated to a single series (South Park, CSI), plus an on-demand library. Does not require registration.
Samsung TV Plus it is pre-installed on Samsung smart TVs and has been active for some time but many ignore it, yet it has more than one hundred channels between films, series, news and sports, including those of Warner Bros. Discovery Italia such as Nove. However, you need a Samsung TV or a Galaxy device (it also works on the Korean company’s smartphones).
Discovery+ has a free plan with registration: live broadcasts of the group’s free channels (Real Time, Dmax, Food Network, Frisbee, Giallo) and some of the on demand programs marked as free. The rest is paid.
