On August 20 debuts on Disney+ The twisted such of Amanda Knoxoriginal miniseries that returns to tell the case that has shocked world public opinion: the murder of Meredith Kercher and the subsequent incrimination – and condemns at first instance – of the American student Amanda Knox. The first two episodes will be available immediately on the platform, followed by a new weekly release. The series will be accessible in Italy in the original language with Italian subtitles, confirming the attention of the platform for an international public.
The crime of Perugia and the face of guilt
In November 2007, in Perugia, the English student Meredith Kercher was brutally assassinated in the apartment he shared with Amanda Knox, Seattle’s American in Italy for a study period. The investigations of the Italian police soon focus on Knox and his boyfriend of the time, Raffaele Sollecito, accused together with Rudy Guede – then sentenced with abbreviated rite – of having participated in the murder. Amanda Knox becomes the symbol of a media guilt, between sensationalistic titles and a public narrative that transforms it into a ambiguous and elusive protagonist. After years of judicial trials and reversals, the Court of Cassation will permanently fulfill Knox and prompt in 2015, recognizing the inconsistency of the evidence.
A story that goes beyond crime
The twisted such of Amanda Knox It is not limited to the chronicle of the case, but explores its psychological, media and human implications. At the center of the narrative is the emotional journey of Amanda, played by Grace Van Patten, in his attempt to resist the label of the “Femme State Assassin” and recover his identity. Next to her, a cast that includes Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico and Roberta Mattei. The project makes use of the supervision of Amanda Knox itself, involved as Executive Producer together with her husband Chris Robinson, in a narrative that wants to be more than a report: a reflection on justice, the narration of the crime and the public construction of the truth.
A production with authoritative signatures
Created by KJ Steinberg (This is us), the miniseries is produced by 20th Television in collaboration with The Littlefield Company. Among the executive producers also include Monica Lewinsky, today an active figure in the rethinking of the media story of the women involved in public scandals. The direction is entrusted to Michael Uppendahl, who gives the series a sober, tense tone, often claustrophobic, perfectly in line with the sense of disorientation that marked the judicial path of the protagonist.
