The fantastic four return to the cinema with a new reboot: complete plot, stellar cast, previews and the post-Credit scene with the return of a great villain.
With The fantastic 4 – the beginningsMarvel Studios officially inaugurates the SI Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, directed by Matt Shakman, arrives in Italian cinemas on 23 July 2025 and represents the second reboot of the famous supergroup, after the previous attempts dated 2005 and 2015. With a duration of 130 minutes, the film promises a mix of action, retro style and family pathos, in a narration that detaches itself from the main temporal line of the MCU.
The plot: origins, family and cosmic threats
Set on the Alternative Terra-828 line, the film tells the origins of Mr. Fantastic, the invisible woman, the thing and the human torch, four astronauts who acquire extraordinary powers after a space mission. From that moment they become the fantastic four, the so -called “first Marvel family”, forced to balance emotional dynamics and heroic responsibilities.
The group will soon face a cosmic threat: Galactus, an intergalactic divinity determined to devour the earth, accompanied by its enigmatic Araldo Silver Surfer. Everything is told in a retro-fault aesthetic inspired by the 1960s, with a visual care that pays homage to the Golden Age of Comics.
The cast: Pedro Pascal leads the team
The film boasts a first level cast, with Pedro Pascal in the role of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby in those of Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The thing and Joseph Quinn in the role of Johnny Storm/human torch. In the role of Galactus we find Ralph Istion, while Julia Garner plays Silver Surfer. Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich complete the cast, in roles not yet officially revealed.
Pascal described the character as “a dream that comes true”, while admitting that he had to moderate his performance initially inspired by the Hollywood cinema of the 1960s. The actor also faced numerous criticisms of his casting, especially related to age and look: “They told me everything: that I am too old, that I am not well, that I have to shave. But I am proud of this role.”
An ambitious project and already with an announced sequel
The fantastic 4 – the beginnings It is the 37th film by Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first to explore a new timeline officially declared separate from that of the Avengers. Its release has been postponed several times – first scheduled for November 2024, then February 2025 – until the final date of 23 July.
On June 19, 2025, Marvel Studios has already announced the development of a sequel, confirming the trust in the project and in its long -term narrative potential. For the first time, moreover, the presence of the post-Credit scene has been officially anticipated by the production, a sign that this new phase of the MCU focuses on transparency and loyalty of the public.
Spoiler: the return of a large villain
According to online sources, including Reddit, the entire plot of the film would be leaked a few weeks after the release, including the post-Credit sequence. In the final, his Storm discovers he is pregnant while Silver Surfer announces the arrival of Galactus. During the final clash in space, the world of Mondi proposes an exchange: he will save the earth only if the fantastic four will deliver to Franklin, the future son of Sue and Reed. The heroes refuse and thus open an epic battle.
In the scene after the credits, his reads a fairy tale to his son. When he gets up, he hears a noise behind him: it is Dr. Destiny, who appears holding his iconic mask in one hand and in the other a Franklin without a senses. Detachment on black. The final writing is a promise: “The fantastic 4 will return.”
