Doctor Chatgpt is ready to visit you (even if he doesn’t have a white coat)

Dr. Chantgpt arrives: take a photo of the tonsils and he gives you the diagnosis. With GPT-5 the IA explains reports, reminds you of visits and can also answer you in a sarcastic way. But the limits are not lacking.

On the internet they go crazy videos of boys and girls struggling with small ailments. The last: a young man with sore throat who, instead of running from the doctor, takes a photo of the tonsils and sends it to chatgpt. The diagnosis arrives in a few seconds. Once, for these things, we relied on Google. Now, it seems, the “visit” is done in chat.

The reason? Openii announced the launch of GPT-5the new artificial intelligence model that enhances chatgpt with particular attention to medical questions. “It is the best ever created for questions related to health”said the American company, adding that it is already available for users of the free version.

According to Openai, GPT-5 is more proactive: It can help interpret reports and medical results, suggest questions to ask specialists and evaluate options for health decisions. In short, the family doctor is not yet retired, but the competition becomes fierce.

An IA that knows you … also the agenda

Among the news: GPT-5 can integrate data from external sources such as Gmail, Google Calendar And Google Contacts. In practice, if you have the appointment from the dentist on Wednesday and the prescription that expires on Friday, he knows. The IA can thus give “contextual” answers, tailor -made.

In addition, the vocal mode allows you to customize the tone of the conversation. Users can choose between four “personality”: Concise, caring, encouraging or sarcastic. So, if one day you want a reassuring consultation and the next one you prefer a doctor with a ready joke, just a click.

Real cases

There is no shortage of concrete examples. On Reddit, a user said he received the suspicion of a rare genetic mutation – A1298C in the MTHFR gene – after years of inexplicable symptoms. Diagnosis then confirmed by a doctor in flesh and blood.

But not everyone trusts blindly. According to a survey of Kff Health Misinformation70% of users are worried about their privacy and 55% question the accuracy of the medical assessments of Chatgpt.

Chatgpt and Healthcare

The use of chatgpt in the health sector is certainly not new. Already in 2023 some studies had shown its usefulness in the drafting of reports, in the management of patients and in health education. It can summarize symptoms, diagnoses and therapies, extract data from medical records or even support the recruitment for clinical studies by analyzing enormous quantities of information.

In everyday life, It can remind you to take drugs, warn you on possible side effects and interactionsand thus improve therapeutic adherence.

The numbers of use

A study conducted on 231 users in the United States and published on Science Direct showed that:

  • 43.2% use chatgpt as a search engine for health information;
  • 39% for medical explanations;
  • 25.9% for translations;
  • only 10.3% for complex data analysis.

This suggests that, at least for now, the user approach remains rather informal.

To increase quality, Openii has created Healthbencha system that measures the AI capacity in the medical field. More than 260 doctors in 60 countries participated in tests on 5,000 simulated conversations. Result: the most recent models often exceed human doctors in the quality of the responses (but quiet, the white cans are not yet an extinction profession).

The limits of Dr. Chatgpt

Despite progress, the use of chatgpt in medicine still has important limits. Accuracy is not guaranteed: A study found that the IA omits about half of the symptoms reported by users.

And then there are human factors: The clinical judgment, empathy, the ability to grasp emotional nuances and non -verbal signals. Skills that, for now, no algorithm can really replicate.

For this reason, experts insist on the importance of human supervision to avoid misleading errors or diagnosis.

In summary, Dr. Chatgpt is fast, updated, available 24 hours a day and even capable of making a joke if you ask him. But, at least for now, the white shirt remains firmly on the shoulders of those who medicine it … out of the cloud.
