The musical comedy brought to success by Johnny Dorelli is on tour in Italian theaters with Giovanni Scifoni and Lorella Cuccarini
“After me the deluge”: “After me the delugeIt is from this humorous novel by David Forrest from 1973 that a musical comedy was inspired in the same year which, fifty years later, remains wonderfully relevant. On 8 December 1974 it made its debut at the Teatro Sistina in Rome, enjoying such success that it remained there for the entire season, “Add a place at the table” – which Pietro Garinei and Sandro Giovannini wrote with Jaja Fiastri – played by Johnny Dorelli.
In a mountain village, the cheerful Don Silvestro receives a phone call that takes him completely by surprise: the communication comes from God himself: he instructs him to build a new Ark, because he intends to send a second universal flood to the earth.
The creation of the music was entrusted to the great jazz musician Armando Trovajoli and the cost of the installation was over 250 million, a very high cost for the time, but the sets and scenes of the construction of the ark and the flood were worth it all.
On 8 December 2024, a new edition of is presented at the Teatro Brancaccio in Rome Add a place at the table, still on tour for the 2025-2026 theater season. From 5 to 22 February it will be on stage at the Teatro Nazionale in Milan before moving on to Florence, Cosenza and Bari.
In this edition the direction is entrusted to Marco Simeoli, who after over 800 performances playing the roles of Toto and then the Mayor, which he will continue here too, moves on to direct with emotion. In the role of the protagonist Don Silvestro, however, the actor Giovanni Scifoni which says: “A wish that comes true! My father showed me Add a Place at the Table on television when I was 6 years old, I remember every gesture. I am thrilled and terrified; I can’t wait to feed the dove.”
She will be in the role of Consolazione Lorella Cuccarini and for “The voice from above”will be maintained in his honor, that of Enzo Garinei played for four seasons.
The ark will be built, but due to a series of circumstances the fellow villagers will not go up: Don Silvestro then decides not to abandon them. At that point, God interrupts the flood and joins the party which, consequently, is organized. Because the place at the table that is added is precisely for Him.
