Panorama on newsstands – the issue addresses the risks of information “stamps”, the systemic errors of modern medicine and the internal tensions that undermine Elly Schlein’s leadership. International investigations and scenarios range from the alleged Sarajevo “safari” to the new centrality of Syria in Arab AI.
The editorial by the director Maurizio Belpietro:
«Free journalism has no “stamps”»
Macron’s proposal to introduce a “quality label” for information sparked protests in France, because it was perceived as an attempt to control the press and impose a mainstream line. In Italy there is no badge, but the Order of Journalists, the compulsory courses and the fact checkers still exercise strong supervision, often ideologically oriented. The article argues that verifying news is the responsibility of journalists and editors only, not the State, and that the only true judge of the quality of information must be the readers.

The cover: All the errors of medicine
Marty Makary’s new book exposes the systemic errors of modern medicine: guidelines based on flimsy evidence, economic pressures, unrevised dogmas and lack of transparency. Hasty decisions – from antibiotics to appendicitis, from hormone therapy to vaccines – have often generated real harm and mistrust. According to experts, we need a more humble medicine, capable of admitting mistakes, updating evidence and restoring critical autonomy to doctors to rebuild the pact with patients.
Politics – Schlein is in the crosshairs of “her” mayors
Elly Schlein’s Democratic Party is experiencing growing tensions: the secretary, weakened by electoral defeats, internal discontent and the successes achieved thanks to the “caciques” she wanted to overcome, is now besieged by Correntone and contested by reformist mayors. The two souls of the party – movementist left and pragmatic area – face each other in view of 2026, while Schlein’s leadership appears increasingly fragile and under attack.
Exclusive – «So they proposed that we shoot the children»
An investigation by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office reopens the case of the alleged “safari” during the siege of Sarajevo: rich foreigners – including some Italians – paid to act as snipers against civilians. Old testimonies from Bosnian officials, Italian diplomacy and intelligence speak of mercenaries, price lists and trips organized via Belgrade. The case, which already emerged in 2022 with a Slovenian documentary, returns today with new witnesses and political tensions in the Balkans, while many shadows and doubts remain about the true extent of the facts.
Foreign Affairs – Artificial intelligence speaks Arabic
Syria becomes strategic again thanks to the new “Silk Link” submarine cable, which will connect it to the Mediterranean, transforming it into a hub for data traffic and, above all, for artificial intelligence produced by Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Qatar. The petromonarchies are investing billions to become global AI powers: infrastructure, agreements with the USA and Big Tech, smart cities, supercomputers, start-ups and “culturally Arab” chatbots. The goal is to build a third technological way between the West and China, diversify from oil and dominate the strategic sectors of the future.
