Beautiful and beaten, Inter also falls back in Madrid

Inter beaten at the last minute by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. The usual regrets but also an alarm that rings: why do the opponents win in the end?

Inter lose by reciting the same script as the derby and the other great matches lost in the championship. In Madrid he played a courageous match, full of quality and at times exciting with the flaw of dying out twenty minutes from the end and allowing Simeone’s athletic team two hits: one at the start on the restart and the fatal one at the last minute with a header from Gimenez.

A defeat that does not weigh on the Champions League standings, but certainly digs a hole in the self-esteem of a team that continues to fall in the same way. It is impossible to criticize the approach, intensity and attitude of Chivu’s players who, however, cannot just appeal to bad luck if every time in high-level matches it ends with the opponent celebrating.

A flaw on which the Romanian coach will have to intervene quickly so as not to complicate the season both in Italy and in Europe. This is the bad news. The good news is that Inter remains a team capable of playing European football and which confirms the reasons why they climbed to the Champions League final twice.

There are some players in amazing form like Dimarco and others who struggle to express themselves at the highest levels. The squad offers alternatives even if nothing good came out of the bench in Madrid, unlike Simeone who changed the game in the last quarter of the game also thanks to the quality and energy thrown onto the pitch. The product is a painful defeat because it doubles the defeat in the derby against Milan. Nothing irreparable, but the road to finding the definitive balance has not yet been completed.
