Clashes between fans occurred on Saturday 11 October along the A2 motorway, near the San Mango Piemonte (Salerno) junction, between supporters of Casertana and Catania. The former were returning from the trip to Picerno and proceeded in a northerly direction, the latter were returning from Giugliano and were traveling in the other lane. According to initial reconstructions, around one hundred people invaded the respective roadways, starting a heavy throwing of stones and smoke bombs.
