The Olympic champion of Milan Cortina 2026 Federica Brignone she underwent surgery at the Madonnina clinic in Milan to remove screws and plates after the operation she underwent for the left knee injury in April 2025 which had kept her away from competitive practice for a long time. Brignone had announced the surgery on social media fearing that cleaning of the meniscus would be necessary during the operation. Instead, Fisi announced that “Federica Brignone was subjected to total anesthesia at the “La Madonnina” nursing home in Milan by Dr. Andrea Panzeri (President of the FISI Medical Commission) for the removal of the fixation devices on her left knee that had been applied to her during the operation on 3 April 2025 on her left knee. The surgery was a perfect success and the reigning double Olympic champion in giant slalom and super giant slalom will gradually resume physical activity over the course of a few weeks. ‘The arthroscopy performed on the knee confirmed the situation we expected – explained Doctor Panzeri -. The plate and screws were removed and no other type of intervention was necessary, Federica will start physiotherapy immediately and within a few weeks she will be able to start physical activity again’”.

Brignone had already started preparing for the world cup which will start on October 24th in Solden, but at this point it is inevitable that she will be forced to skip the first races of the season, focusing on the next 2027 World Championships which are scheduled for February 1st to 14th in Crans Montana. Federica, after an initial phase dedicated to physiotherapy, will test her conditions and then return to wearing skis and plan her return to the World Cup.
