clash over truce proposals. And an EU peace plan appears

The American and Ukrainian delegations met in Geneva, while the Europeans presented their counterproposal to the White House plan

The tension between them has started to rise again Donald Trump And Volodymyr Zelensky. “I inherited a war that should never have happened, a losing war for everyone, especially for the millions of people who died needlessly. The Ukrainian ‘leadership’ has expressed no gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia,” the American president said on Sunday on Truth. “Ukraine is grateful to the United States, to every American heart and personally to President Trump for the assistance that, starting from Javelinsaved Ukrainian lives,” Zelensky replied shortly after, adding that “it was the Russiaand only Russia, to start this war.”

Relationships tense again

In short, relations between the two presidents are back on track thesis. After the harsh argument that took place in the White House in February, Trump and Zelensky had, at least partially, mended relations. Now, tensions have returned. Furthermore, it is no mystery that the Ukrainian president does not appreciate the peace plan recently leaked by the United States, considering it excessively favorable to Fly: a plan that, according to Trump, Zelensky should decide to accept by Thursday.
It is in this context that, again on Sunday, European leaders published theirs counterproposal to Trump’s project: a document which, especially on some points, differs from the US position. First of all, a prescription is prescribed cease fire immediately. Secondly, Kiev is not required to withdraw from Donbass. Finally, Ukraine’s entry into the EU is not categorically ruled out Born nor is a certain time frame set for the next Ukrainian elections.

The Geneva talks

Meanwhile, again on Sunday, talks were held in Geneva between the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubioand the Ukrainian delegation. “I think the bottom line is this: I think this was a very, very significant meeting, I would say probably the best meeting and the best day that we’ve had so far in this whole process since we took office in January,” Rubio said, later adding that what would emerge from the talks was “fundamental documentAt the time of writing, it was not yet known what this document consisted of. Rubio also said that Trump was satisfied with what was reported to him on Sunday.

Trump’s strategic objectives

The point will now be to understand whether it will be possible to find a form of harmonization between the US plan and the European counter-proposal. Trump is intent on moving forward and quickly ending the conflict in Ukraine for two reasons.
First of all, he wants to accelerate the mending of relations between Washington and that country Global South who never really turned his back on Moscow. Secondly, he hopes to succeed in decouple Russia from China: it is no coincidence that the US peace proposal includes a “long-term economic cooperation agreement” between Washington and Moscow.
