“He opened the door without hesitation”: the prosecutor’s office broadens the investigation, DNA test also on family and friends to trace “unknown 3”
It could be the detail that changes everything. Or yet another useless element in a case that has been tormeating public opinion for 17 years. On the oral buffer carried out to Chiara Poggi on the day of her murder, on August 13, 2007, a complete and comparable, but unknown genetic profile was found. A discovery that reopens disturbing scenarios and pushes the investigators to sift any possible connection: Who is “unknown 3”? And above all, What did his DNA do in the victim’s mouth?
The amount of DNA found is reduced, and this also leaves the hypothesis that it is a contamination open, as already ascertained for another track found on the side of the same gauze, attributed to an assistant from the coroner.
But precisely by virtue of the numerous errors that marked the first phase of the investigation, today every possibility is taken into consideration with the utmost attention. The goal is to dispel any doubt and definitively close a case that, despite Alberto Stasi’s definitive sentence, continues to feed questions and judicial tensions.
The isolated genetic profile – indicated by public opinion as “unknown 3” – will be initially compared with that of about 30 operators who, in various capacities, came into contact with Chiara’s body.
But not only. The analyzes will also be extended to the acquaintances of the victim, his family and Andrea Sempliothe only investigated in this new investigation reopened after over 15 years.
If the profile should correspond to one of the operators, the contamination hypothesis would be confirmed and the abandoned swab track. Otherwise, they would open unexplored scenarios, with new potential implications.
In fact, the reconstruction that Chiara would have opened the door to a known person and he trusted: “On the morning of August 13, 2007 he opened the door of the house without hesitation to a person with whom he would have been confidence.”
It is precisely on this point that the attention of investigators is now focused: Identify who could have such direct access to the young woman without arousing suspicions. For this reason, Research also extend to the circle of friendships and girls of the girl.
In the meantime, the evidentiary accident has been temporarily suspended and should resume in two weeks. Meanwhile, the Pavia prosecutor’s office continues the activities in silence, in the utmost reserve: no information transpires on investigative developments, as established by the prosecutor Fabio Napoleone and his team.
However, the fact that the judge for the preliminary investigations authorized the reopening of the case suggests that new concrete elements have emerged, opening the way to investigative hypotheses never traveled before. Precisely on the basis of the results of the next analysis, the Prosecutor could submit an application to the Judge Garlaschelli to obtain an extension of the unrepeatable investigations.
The last word, however, will be up to science: Only the certain identification of that genetic profile can clarify whether we are in front of a decisive test or the umpteenth false track.
