France Under Attack: After Trains, Sabotage of Fiber Optic Networks

France remains under attack. After the actions against the high-speed rail network that on Friday, the day of the opening ceremony of Paris 2024, brought traffic to a standstill, this time unknown hands have targeted the fiber optic network of six different departments. It happened on the night between Sunday 28 and Monday 29 July and the sabotage action spared Paris and the area where the Olympics are being held. The sabotage targeted some telephone operators, including Free and Sfr and the departments concerned are Bouches-du-Rhone, Aude, Oise, He’rault, Meuse and Drome.

This confirms the strong tensions that accompanied the start of the Games and which culminated in the massive deployment of police forces (around 75,000 people) to ensure security during the ceremony along the Seine, the first held outside a stadium in the history of the modern Olympics.

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing to try to identify those responsible for the attacks on the TGV rail networks. According to what has been learned, the investigation has led to the arrest of a far-left activist. The man, local sources report, had in his vehicle “access keys to the SNCF technical rooms”, “wire cutters”, a “set of universal keys” in particular, as well as manuals and leaflets linked to the far-left, the same source added.

The matrix of the sabotage actions should therefore be that of the extreme left. The resigning French Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, announced in the last few hours that they have proceeded to identify “a certain number of profiles” suspected of being involved “, stating that “the services have identified a certain number of profiles that could have committed” the sabotage committed during the night between Thursday and Friday”.

The sabotage was deliberate, very precise, extremely well-targeted, the resigning minister explained: “This – he added – is the traditional mode of action of the extreme left”.
