In the last downhill of the season the Italian achieved the fifth podium behind the Austrian Kriechmayr
After the silver in the downhill at the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics Giovanni Franzoni also confirms in Courchevel, in the last race of the World Cup season, that it is now a reality in the world of speed skiing. The Italian achieved second place behind the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr which brought Austria back to success after three years. Kriechmayr was the last Austrian to win the World Cup in Soldeu in 2023. For Kriechmayr, Courchevel is the twentieth victory of his career.
Franzoni satisfied
Giovanni Franzoni finished second by just nine hundredths, fifth podium of the season, but he is satisfied with his race: “I am very happy with how I’m giving continuity to my skiing in various types of conditions and I’m very proud of that. Because in any case, being constant in a season like this, with exploits throughout the year with a thousand emotions and tensions, makes me very satisfied. Kriechmayr did everything perfect. For me it was only the second lap after the test and I’m happy. This heat destroys me, but I’ve also improved on the slippery snow. And finishing on the podium with Kriechmayr and Odermatt is a great thing.”
The overall World Cup in Odermatt
In Courchevel the Swiss took third place Marco Odermatt31 cents from the top, a result that allows him to mathematically win his fifth overall World Cup with six races to spare and also the specialty Cup given that his compatriot Franjo Von Allmen, his only direct rival, did not finish the race on the French track.
