Garlasco, a new DNA on the right thumb of Chiara Poggi appears

In 2007 the DNA on Chiara’s right thumb was not interpretable: today it could be connected to a name. The profile is male. The three female traces discovered on the crime scene also in the sights.

New shadows and new slopes on the crime of Garlasco. Almost twenty years after the murder of Chiara Poggi, in fact a detail emerges that could reopen unexpected scenarios: A genetic profile isolated on the young thumb of the young womanfound in 2007 but ended up in the background, he returns to the center of investigative attention today. To bring it back is Time.

In addition to the two DNA already identified under the nails of the victim – one of which attributed to Andrea Semplio, Investigated by the Pavia Prosecutor’s Office on charges of murder in competition – to now attract the gaze of the investigators it is a DNA sample obtained with a swab with Chiara’s right thumb. The same hand, must be remembered, on whose nail another profile had been detected, always attributable to semium.

The new genetic code, marked with the abbreviation “MDX1” From the scientific investigations department of the carabinieri, he dates back to the early stages of the investigation. Already in 2007 that track had aroused the interest of the investigators, who had started an analysis in contradictory in the presence of the geneticist Matteo Fabbri, consultant of Alberto Stasi, at the time investigated and now definitively sentenced for the crime.

The Ris, then led by General Luciano Garofalo – today a defense consultant – had included the track in a report dated 11 September 2007. The exam declared it unprechaoredhighlighting “a ladder effect present in large part in the markers studied probably due to a random and therefore random dna amplification”. To complicate the picture, as written in the biodattilo report, “the height of the peaks is not particularly high”. Nonetheless, the amplification table certified a certain data: the profile was male.

That genetic fragment was again examined in 2014 by Professor Francesco De Stefano, the same that extracted the DNA of “Unknown 1” – now attributed to Semve – by the right little finger and from the left thumb of the victim, and that of “Unknown 2” on the left ring cottage, which remained without identity. Even on that occasion, however, the analysis did not bring concrete results.

Now, with the new technologies available and the 2007 tracks still preserved, the possibility that that genetic profile will be connected to a name returns concrete.

The investigation in progress

The Prosecutor of Pavia, led by Fabio Napoleone, now awaits the conclusions of the Superconsuver Cristina Cattaneo, called to respond on two crucial joints: the crime weapon and the possible presence of more people on the crime scene. «The investigation could not have reopened without the hypothesis of more people on the scene, so it is so. The prosecutor hypothesizes a competition between people, so now he tries to find out who the accomplices are. Too bad that it is not yet known what clues to be borne by my client, “said the lawyer Massimo Lovati, a defender of Semplio.

At the same time, the evidentiary incident on the genetic analyzes entrusted to the Perita Denise Alban continues: the date set for the hearing in which the definitive results will be announced is 10 October.

The other traces (feminine) in the house in via Pascoli

Not only the male DNA: the acts also report Three presumably feminine biological tracesisolated in distinct points of the crime scene already on the morning of 13 August 2007.

The exams conducted at the time did not allow to trace a full profile, probably for the too reduced number of genetic markers. The characterization, in fact, did not provide useful data for a comparison. However, That biological material could have been compared with the women who habitually frequented the Poggi house Before the crime, considering that those traces were in areas considered central of the crime scene.

Also this investigative vein, which remained pending, could now be reviewed with current technologies, reopening further questions about who was present in the house in via Pascoli on the morning of Chiara’s murder.
