The new wiretaps from 2007 that have resurfaced on the Garlasco case bring Alberto Stasi back to the centre: the phone call with his father Nicola a few days after the murder of Chiara Poggi reveals fears and concerns. The absence of an alibi split the community between those who are guilty and those who are innocent, and in 2025 history repeats itself with a new suspect.
The story of Garlascosince the murder of Clear Poggi of 2007has divided public opinion: on one side those who have always believed in the guilt of Alberto Stasisconvicted of the crime, and on the other hand those who have always had doubts about the reconstruction of the accusation. A new interception with a protagonist appears to foment this rift Stasisa few days after diffusion of those on Andrew Examplecurrently under investigation for the same murder.
The telephone conversation, aired exclusively at Fourth Republicinvolves the then 24-year-old and his father Nicholas Stasisand was registered on August 23, 2007when the investigations were still in the initial stages and no names had been officially registered in the register of suspects.
The phone call of August 23, 2007
In the intercepted phone call, Alberto Stasi he appears deeply distressed and disconsolate: ten days after the death of his girlfriend, he expresses to his father all his anguish at the turn events were taking. “It couldn’t have gone any worse, the wrong person at the wrong time and in the wrong place,” he says Stasis in a worried tone, adding: “If they don’t find anything else they’ll blame me.” The awareness that he was already considered a suspect took hold, even though the investigators had not yet formalized specific charges.
Even the father reveals a certain anxiety: “It’s not possible that everything is against us”, he replies, “we need to have a little faith and be a little optimistic”. In an attempt to reassure him, Nicola Stasi refers to the scientific analyzes underway: «Our hope is that they will immediately find something from these investigations on all those finds they have there Parmaotherwise it is our ruin.”
The reference was to the numerous items seized at the crime scene, including DNA samples, fingerprints and clothing sent to Res for the tests, which would inevitably have focused suspicion on the son, the only one present in the house according to his own version of events. Alberto Stasi he had in fact declared to the investigators that he had entered his girlfriend’s house that morning, that he had found her already dead and that he had called 118 only after a few hours: «I think they killed a personI’m not sure, maybe she’s alive». Words that immediately raised doubts in his reconstruction of the facts.
It’s not the family’s first wiretap Stasis to be made public. Already in July 2025, another conversation, this time dating back to the days immediately following the crime, involved the father Nicholas and a relative. That phone call revolved around the interrogation undergone by the son and featured a phrase that had caused quite a stir: “The problem is that there is no alibi.”
The 2014 conviction
The fears expressed by Alberto Stasi and by the father in the 2007 wiretaps were then revealed to be founded: after a long judicial process, Stasis he was definitively sentenced in 2014 to 16 years old of imprisonment for the murder of Chiara Poggi. Despite the acquittals in the first and second degree, the sentence of Court of Cassation confirmed the conviction. The father, who passed away in 2013, never learned of the outcome of the trial, nor that his son had been granted semi-freedom from 2025.
For those who have followed the case closely, the wiretaps confirm what emerged during the trial: Alberto Stasi he was immediately aware of the fragility of his position and the lack of elements in his favor. The reference to being «the wrong person at the wrong time and in the wrong place” can be interpreted in different ways, but it certainly reveals the anguish of those who already felt guilty by public opinion and investigators. A story that repeats itself: same murder, a divided community, but with another suspect.
