In the crime of Garlasco there is an absence that weighs as much as a condemnation. Sixteen years in prison in Alberto Stasi, five degrees of judgment, an official reconstruction of the facts. But still today, almost twenty years later, The weapon with which Chiara Poggi was killed has never been found. Nor identified. A void that continues to generate questions, feeding suspicions, open new slopes.
Today, while the Pavia prosecutor’s office reopens the case with an “alternative” investigation and Andrea Semplio in the sight, the mystery of the object used to hit and kill Chiara returns to the center: an enigma that the appraisals, sentences and testimonies have never managed to dissolve.
The injuries incompatible with a single object
In the house in via Pascoli, where Chiara was found dead, none of the objects present was identified as the crime weapon. The first inspections, conducted by investigators immediately after the discovery of the body, allowed only to formulate hypotheses. The coroner, Marco Ballardini, established that The cause of the death were “unknown injuries”. However, the variety and nature of the wounds on the victim’s body immediately complicate the work of the experts.
At first, the prosecutor’s consultants hypothesized that the killer had used “tailor scissors”. But the type of lesion to the head quickly had suspicions towards a bricklayer hammer. In the appeal sentence of 6 December 2011some are outlined Characteristics of the weapon: we talk about “A heavy instrument, vibrated several times with considerable strength, having a narrow pouring surface, with an used tip per se and probably of a metal nature”.
To strengthen this track is the complaint of Chiara’s fatherthat a year after the murder, returning to the house, reports the disappearance of a “swallowing hammer” which he used to break wooden pallets.
The new tracks and objects found in Tromello
Despite everything, the weapon has never been recovered. Over time, several hypotheses have followed. An anonymous phone call suggested that it could be an iron. Later, another theory emerged: that of the fireplace attachment. The track was born from a report then portrayed of the worker Marco Muschitta, according to which Stefania Cappa would have moved away by bicycle from the crime area with a cumbersome object in hand.
On the basis of this testimony – and the declarations made by the “Supertestimone” de The hyenas – On May 14, investigators patrolled a stretch of Tromello canal. There were several objects found there: a fireplace caliper, the head of a hammer and two accepts. Everyone will now be subjected to in -depth analysis.
The hypothesis of two different weapons
A passage of medical-legal advice leaves a further hypothesis open: “If you don’t want to hypothesize the use of multiple tools”. A possibility so far only mentioned, but that the new investigation seems willing to explore more attention.
In fact, the use of two weapons would explain some inconsistencies in the wounds. The cuts to the eyelids, for example, recall – as Dr. Ballardini writes – a weapon with “rather sharp thread” or “sharp tip”. The injury to the right jaw, on the other hand, presents “characters of tip -type alterations and cuts that are not contusive”. It would therefore be a first heavy and blunt object, with which Chiara would have been hit in the head, and a second tool, probably cut, used to inflict other shots.
Now all eyes are focused on the evidentiary accident set for June 17th. A decisive step, expected not only to clarify any responsibilities, but also to try – perhaps for the first time – to give a name and a form to that weapon of the crime that, for eighteen years, has been missing the appeal.
