From the journalist Rita Cavallaro to the lawyer Giada Bocellari up to the YouTuber Bugalalla: all the death threats surrounding the Garlasco crime
No generic insult, nor a simple keyboard provocation. After Giada Bocellaridefense lawyer of Alberto Stasi, and the YouTuber Francesca Bugamellialso the journalist Rita Cavallaro he has received explicit death threats, evoking attacks with muriatic acid, firearms, and even strangulation. An escalation which, in the case of the talented designer de The newspaperarrives after a year and a half of ferocious attacks on social media, including defamation and body shaming.
However, the reporter did not allow herself to be intimidated and faced the issue with absolute firmness. He filed a complaint through his lawyers, the lawyers Elisabetta Aldrovandi and Cosimo Cavallaro, asking for theactivation of the so-called red codethe procedure foreseen for cases of violence against women, and the immediate identification of the person responsible.
«Never threatened like this not even by the mafia and ‘ndrangheta»
Host of the show Filorossoon Rai 3, Cavallaro recounted the incident with words that clearly capture the extent of the intimidation. Over the course of his career, he has handled investigations related to organized crime, including the mafia and ‘Ndrangheta, without ever receiving threats of this level. The Garlasco case, however, triggered something different.
“I have never received threats of this type, and instead I receive them for Garlasco” he declared courageously. “At that time the feeling is that there is much more behind this casethere is a system that has been trying for a year and a half to delegitimize the Prosecutor’s Office, to hinder the work of the prosecutors, to delegitimize the carabinieri, the lawyers, those who have worked, those who are working like us journalists, perhaps an attempt to silence, we obviously will not remain silent”.
What is behind the pressure suffered by the journalist
Cavallaro described a prolonged campaign, not an isolated episode. The attacks continued for months, with thedeclared objective, in his perceptions, to discourage those who report the case from the outside. The journalist ruled out, in any case, any giving in: “No, absolutely, given that for a year and a half they went ahead with denigration, social attacks, defamation, even body shaming, and they didn’t work with me, because let’s say I’m a bit of a rubber wall.”
She also added a reflection on those who, in similar conditions, could have given up: «I must say that, given what I suffered, if I had been a fragile person, perhaps I would have closed myself off and changed, I would no longer have talked about Garlasco. Since it didn’t work, they got to the point of resulting in these threats, which are very serious.”
The phenomenon of death threats linked to Garlasco
The threats to Cavallaro are not an isolated case in the panorama of those working around the Garlasco case. In recent weeks, similar targets have been the lawyer Giada Bocellari, Alberto Stasi’s lawyer together with Antonio De Rensis, and the YouTuber Francesca Bugamelli (better known as Bugalalla). De Rensis himself commented on the intimidation suffered by his colleagues, declaring that no threat will be able to stop the defense’s work.
The picture that emerges is therefore that of a pressure that affects anyone who tries to uncover the uncomfortable truth about one of the most controversial crime cases in Italian history. Everyone can be affected, regardless of role: those who defend in the courtroom, those who report on digital channels, those who write in newspapers.
