Germany: Merz wins. The AFD doubles the votes. While the SPD collapses

The elections in Germany recorded the turnout record: 84 percent. The highest since 1990, the year of reunification. Respected eve polls. Christian Democrats win Friedrich Merz, reaching around 29%. Total collapse of social democrats and green. The SPD, the oldest party in the country, seems destined for sunset. He had never achieved such a low result: 16 percent. The outgoing chancellor Olaf Scholz Acts immediately: “Bitter result” commented Laconicly. But the news of the evening is another. The success of the ultra -right. The AFD managed to double the votes, reaching 20.8 percent. The formation of Alice Weidel triumphed in all the former five states of Eastern Germany. The leader speaks of “historical moment” and said he was ready to “tend his hand to offer CDU cooperation”. The possibility of an involvement in the new government seems to be a remote hypothesis. Yesterday evening, after the first exit polls, Merz also spoke. “Thanks for your trust in CDU and me personally. Now it is up to us ”. And he promised to go to work immediately because “the world outside does not wait”.

For the number one of the Christian Democrats it is a real rebirth. He had left politics in the early 2000s, put on the corner by Merkel. He had turned into a business lawyer and in a short time he climbed the leaders of the Blackrock fund, becoming president of it. It is now destined to become the chancellor of the country symbol of the European Union. But many things have changed. The international scenario has changed profoundly. And he immediately conscious at the end of the elections. “For me the absolute priority will be to reach independence from the United States,” he said. The message is clear. How to make it? Doubts persist on which type of coalition will guide the Republic. For now, only one certainty. The “Brandmauer” will not collapse. The health cordon to stem the AFD will not fail. The most likely scenario is an alliance between the CDU/CSU and the Social Democrats of Scholz. A few minutes ago, in fact, the official arrived: the Sahra Wagenknecht party stopped at 4.97% and therefore will have no seat inside the Bundestag. Populists but leftist, had detached themselves from “Die Linke” just a year ago. Although the polls gave them growing, they failed to reach the coveted 5%threshold. As the Spiegel reports, the leader is evaluating legal actions. In this way, however, Merz can do without the green to govern. The goal of the CDU is now to accelerate negotiations. The first contacts began. An excellent bank will be Lars Klingbeil, head of the SPD and a figure highly respected by the Social Democratic leaders. He is the man who could smooth out the fundamental divergence between the two parties: migratory policy. The idea repeatedly reiterated by Merz is to expel all illegal migrants, that is, those without documents in order. This after the long trail of blood that accompanied the German elections. But not only. It is a way to stem the ultra -right, which has based its success on these topics.

A few minutes ago the leaders of AFD, Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel, held a joint press conference. The enthusiasm is to the stars while in the night they received the personal congratulations of Elon Musk. It is clear that the next chancellor will have in front of it existential challenges for Germany and Europe itself. And the relationship with the Trump administration will be crucial. On social X, Merz has been peremptory: “Now more than ever, we must put Ukraine in a force position. For a right peace, the attacked country must be part of the peace negotiations “. The chancelleries of the Old Continent congratulated the CDU, even if the password remains: to do it soon. This week both the French president Macron and the British Starmer will fly to Washington. On the table the fate of Kiev and the future of the Euro -last relationships. The EU realized that the end of the story did not take place. Indeed, it is accelerating more and more. Now the alliances that persist in the end of the Second World War are now in the balance. We will see what happens.
