Hamilton miracle at Silverstone Pole in the Sprint, then Antonelli

Lewis puts his SF-26 in front of everyone and comments: “Great work by the team, I didn’t think I’d compete for the front row”

Lewis Hamilton is the king of Silverstone and on Thursday he joked: “Everyone asks me for advice on beating Mercedes, maybe we need to unscrew a few bolts.” And instead today in the Sprint tests the seven-time world champion put his SF-26 ahead of everyone: pole position with 11 hundredths of an advantage over Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes. And then the hope of the Ferrari fans is rekindled, perhaps the fight for the title is not over. Hamilton is certainly putting in one sensational performance after another. “We didn’t expect to be able to compete for the front row: it’s a wonderful surprise. I think the pace is good, the car felt good. It’s not easy when you have such strong opponents behind you but I will do my best to keep them behind in the short race. The car was great today. Everyone at the factory is continuing to push, we bring something new to every weekend and we are all pushing hard. The team really deserves this pole, we are ahead of Mercedes and Red Bull who have a lot of power. I’m really proud of how far we’re pushing.”

The others

Third place for Max Verstappen von the Red Bull and fourth for Charles Leclerc with the other Ferrari. Fifth time for the Englishman from Mercedes George Russell ahead of the McLarens Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Therefore, tomorrow in the Sprint Hamilton will start in pole position but obviously it will be very important to repeat himself also in the hour of official testing which will determine the grid for the grand prix scheduled for Sunday. Silvedrstone is considered a very fast circuit and the power of the Mercedes engine seemed unattainable for the Ferraris, but Hamilton proved that beating the silver arrows is not impossible. After a great Friday the Reds dream of confirming themselves on Saturday and Sunday too.
