Here’s what changes for citizens (and how not to pay it)

The costs of the subscription and how to withdraw. Meanwhile, the government deals with the renewal of the conventions with the managers, while the weight of the electronic identity card grows

Spid, from today we change. Access free to the online services of the public administration with Spid via Infocert will no longer be possible, the subscription is triggered, as in the case of Aruba. Meanwhile, we work on the renewal of the conventions between government and managers, with an uncertain future.

Spid for a fee from 28 July: for those who take the subscription and how to withdraw so as not to pay

After ten years of gratuity, Infocert has decided to introduce an annual subscription of 5.98 euros (including VAT). Today whoever wishes to continue using Spid with the company of the Tinexta Group will have to give explicit consent to payment: without this step, the service will be automatically deactivated, but costs will not be charged. For those who do not accept the new model, the withdrawal is possible and free. There are two modes: send a PEC A (email protected) or a registered letter with return receipt to the Infocert headquarters in Rome. Alternatively, it is possible to receive assistance through the Infocert.it official website, the web chat or the call center at 049 78 49 360. The infocert move follows the one already completed by Aruba a few months ago, while the government aims to decide gradually with the digital identity based on electronic identity card (CIE) and on the future it-wallet. However, not all Spid managers have chosen the path of monetization: Posteid, who alone manages over 70% of active digital identities, maintains the free service for now.

Spid, conventions in the balance and an increasingly blind future future

The transition to a paid model by some providers is determined by the “difficult” relationship between managers and government, which for years have discussed a solution. The original agreements expired at the end of 2022 and were urgently extended by the agency for digital Italy until April 2023 And now? The current conventions will expire next October and from 9 July the three -month window scheduled to formally open the negotiations for renewal. A delicate match on which the objective imposed by the national recovery and resilience plan (PNRR) in the population is incorrect: 70% of the population must have a digital identity by June 2026 In the meantime, the orientation of the executive is working is to make the electronic identity card the main tool to access public services. Its use is growing strongly. The relationship of use between CIE and SPID, which was once 1 to 20, has now reduced to 1 to 10, a sign that the transition to the new digital infrastructure is already underway.
The future of Spid is increasingly linked to economic sustainability for managers and the political will to simplify access to public services, reducing the number of systems. For citizens struggling between costs, renewals and free alternatives, digital identity becomes more and more a question not only technological, but also economic.
