here’s what changes for families

Revaluation of 1.4% and update of the amounts based on the economic indicator. But without an updated ISEE, from March you risk receiving only the minimum

Single Allowance: from March the music changes for many families. After the first two months of the year with amounts substantially aligned with those of 2025, the increases will start in March. Slightly higher amounts thanks to the revaluation linked to inflation and the new ISEE thresholds. But it is essential, even more so this year, to update your household economic indicator. Otherwise, the real risk is that of only accessing the minimum amount, effectively nullifying the adjustment required by law.

Single Allowance 2026, what really changes

From 1 January 2026, the automatic adjustment of the single and universal allowance came into force, linked to the trend of inflation. The revaluation is equal to 1.4% and concerns both the monthly amounts and the ISEE thresholds which determine access to the different benefit bands. The measure remains universal: it is available to all families with dependent children, but the amount continues to progressively decrease as the ISEE increases. Even in the absence of the indicator, however, a minimum quota is still guaranteed. Precisely for this reason the ISEE update becomes decisive for transforming the “on paper” increase into a real benefit.

Higher amounts and new ISEE thresholds for the 2026 Single Allowance

The ISEE thresholds have also been updated with 2026. Up to 17,468.51 euros you are entitled to the maximum amount; between 17,468.51 and 46,230.35 euros, there is the intermediate range with decreasing amounts and over 46,230.35 euros or if the ISEE is not presented, the minimum is received. The amounts range from a minimum of 59 euros to a maximum of 203.81 euros per month, per child. In 2025 it started from the minimum 57.50 euros up to the maximum 201 euros.
It is not just a technical adjustment: with the same income, some families could find themselves in a slightly more favorable range in 2026 compared to the previous year, thanks to the shift in thresholds and the new ISEE calculation method. From 2026 the ISEE calculation is different. The valuation of the main residence and some asset components changes. But without an updated ISEE, all these advantages risk remaining only theoretical. All the increases already foreseen remain: for children with disabilities, for children after the second, for families with both working parents and for mothers under 21. These components also benefit from the 1.4% revaluation.

Isee: deadlines not to be missed

The real watershed is March 2026. The 2025 ISEE expired at the end of the year and, from March, for the calculation of the single allowance, reference will be made exclusively to the new indicator. Anyone who updates their ISEE by February 28th will receive the correct amount from March, including increases. Anyone who submits it by June 30 will still be able to obtain the arrears starting from March. Beyond this date, however, the arrears for the current year are lost. And without a valid ISEE, INPS will automatically apply the minimum amount of the single allowance. In other words, the increase exists and is guaranteed by law, but without the updated ISEE it risks turning into a sharp cut in the monthly allowance.

Single Allowance: the numbers for 2025

In the first eleven months of the year, 18.1 billion euros were disbursed for the Single Allowance, in 2024 it was 19.9 billion. Over 6 million families have received at least one monthly payment, for a total of almost 10 million children. The average amount per family was 273 euros, while that per child was 173 euros.
