During a Christmas parade of lights in Nunspeet, in the east of the Netherlands, a car hit a group of people who were waiting for the procession to pass. The provisional toll speaks of at least nine injured, three of whom are in serious condition.

The local police defined the episode as “serious”, but ruled out the possibility of an intentional gesture. Several ambulances and emergency services helicopters attended the scene, while the area was immediately made safe.

According to initial reconstructions, the car hit those present while they were stopped along the parade route. The authorities are continuing investigations to clarify the exact dynamics of the incident.
