Inter defeated on penalties, now the Italian Super Cup against Napoli

Bologna writes history and qualifies for the final of the Italian Super Cup against Napoli. Inter lose yet another clash with a great team, even if Chivu will now be able to rest for a few days…

It will be Bologna against Napoli: after a tour of over five thousand kilometres, the Italian Super Cup has returned home, in the sense of the original challenge between the champions of the Scudetto and those of the Italian Cup. The seconds or guests are out depending on the interpretation of the protagonists, carry on as before and may the best win. For Vincenzo Italiano it’s yet another miracle because he will play the fifth final of his career with the aim of giving his Bologna another dream. Inter lose another direct match adding it to the list of those already lost this season: technically it is a draw, but there is no doubt that the allergy to ending big matches with a smile is becoming a theme.

Some flashes remain of the match, beautiful and intense to make us forget the insults and controversies of the one between Napoli and Milan. Meanwhile the flight of Thuram to impact Bastoni’s cross, deluding Inter that everything could be easy, then the hands of Bissecknow the trademark of a defender with potential equal to the distractions with which he peppers his performances, and finally the long theory of missed penalties.

Bastoni (saved), Moro (saved), Barella and Miranda (to the stars) and Bonny (saved) almost set a record: five consecutive penalties wasted as if no one was interested in snatching the pass to the final against Napoli. Obviously this is not true and the joy of those who won is equal to the disappointment of those who lost. Neither Chivu nor Italiano can be accused of having pulled out the leg: Bologna and Inter played it out to the end, even forgetting some of the rotation choices made in the starting lineups.

Another suggestion: he put the stamp on Bologna’s qualification Ciro Immobilesomeone with 330 goals in his career who is experiencing the last lap of a beautiful story in Bologna. While the others trembled, he placed his penalty under the top corner regardless of the pressure.

Chivu lost and knows that the firing squad of criticism awaits him again. Let’s be clear, having left Saudi Arabia in time also has a non-negative consequence for a team squeezed by a succession of commitments and expected shortly after Christmas from the away match at Atalanta. The good news or suggestions, however, end here. What remains is the feeling of a group that once again has reaped less than it sowed (even though Bologna has always been alive and dangerous) and that is getting used to losing. Not the best way to show up at the start of 2026.

Post scriptum – From Radu in spring 2022 to Immobile’s penalty, passing through Orsolini’s goal that pushed the Scudetto close to Napoli a few months ago: Bologna is officially Inter’s bête noire. Pirandello would award the Bolognese an honorary license.
