Diplomacy between the US and Iran is increasingly hanging by a thread. Mutual bombing continues, while the Islamic Republic intensifies threats against Western leaders
The memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran is becoming increasingly shaky. This morning, the United States carried out a new series of attacks against the Islamic Republic, after the Pasdaran had hit a merchant ship and declared the Strait of Hormuz closed again.
«Iran was given a further opportunity to demonstrate its adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding, after being called to account for previous attacks on merchant ships, but it again failed. In response, the United States is imposing a high cost by continuing to undermine Iran’s ability to attack civilian sailors and merchant vessels freely transiting the strait,” Centcom said. «Iran made a wrong choice. Now he is paying the consequences,” added Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth.
The Islamic Republic, on the other hand, targeted a US base in Jordan. Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the Emirates also announced that they had suffered attacks by the Khomeini regime. «The era of unilateral agreements is over. We told you: keep your word or you will suffer the consequences. Reality is knocking on the door”, tweeted the president of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, in the meantime, accompanying the post with the clause of the memorandum relating to the Strait of Hormuz. “This strategic passage is more important than dozens of atomic bombs and the Islamic Republic of Iran will protect it,” added Mohsen Rezaee, advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
That the climate is becoming incandescent is also demonstrated by the Iranian newspaper Hamshahriwhich published the list of international leaders it said should be shot in retaliation for the killing of Ali Khamenei in February. The photos on the list include those of Donald Trump, Giorgia Meloni, Benjamin Netanyahu, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz. “This week, Israeli intelligence informed us, the president and our officials, of the existence of a very specific plot aimed at eliminating President Trump,” said the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, during an interview with Fox New.
And so, as tensions continue to rise, regional mediators struggle to restart diplomacy. The Pakistani Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, spoke by telephone with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, hoping that dialogue between Washington and Tehran will return. A dialogue which, however, at least for now, seems to be becoming increasingly distant. Furthermore, it is no mystery that, within the Khomeinist regime, the Pasdaran have never digested the diplomatic strategy of the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian. And the Pasdaran are doing everything they can to definitively destroy the memorandum of understanding with the United States.
