Italy is ready for the 2026 Games Wierer, Sighel and Vinatzer what flashes

Azzurri in great shape heading into the Winter Olympics: biathlon, short track and long track already winning. Ski: Goggia fourth in Sankt Moritz in the freestyle won by the eternal Lindasy Vonn at 41 years old

Less than two months until Milan-Cortina 2026 and while the race against time continues in the Lombardy capital and in the Ampezzo town to best present all the new facilities, the Italian athletes are approaching the Winter Olympic Games already in great shape. Between confirmations, surprises and some inevitable delays in condition, the state of health of our winter disciplines is decidedly good as demonstrated by the results obtained in the various world cup races. Here is a journey into the various disciplines, in which our athletes have already achieved great results in the various stages of the world cup.

Vinatzer super, Goggia on the rise

Alpine skiing has already given us great satisfaction the second place obtained by Alex Vinatzer in the Beaver Creek giant slalom, best career result for the South Tyrolean athlete. But it is from women that great results are expected and the weekend started well the fourth place obtained by Sofia Goggia in the free climb of Sankt Moritz won by the extraordinary Lindsay Vonn who triumphed at 41 years old. But the wait is above all about possibility of Federica Brignone’s recovery, the winner of last season’s overall World Cup has resumed skiing after the operation and there is optimism in the environment for the world champion’s participation in the Cortina races. Also fourth and sixth place achieved by Dominik Paris in the American races (super-G and downhill) they once again put the Italian among the best sprinters in the world.

Sighel dominates short track

But it is on the ice that our athletes have proven to be the best and Arianna Fontana has not yet taken the field. In the meantime though Pietro Sighel he won the 1000 in the World Cup race in Montreal, a distance in which he has already won the specialty classification. In the measurement skating in Nagano they triumphed Sara Conti and Niccolò Maciion the long track Andrea Giovannini he won in Calgary while in Heerenveen Davide Ghiotti he finished second in the ten thousand.

Wierer shines

Dorothea Wierer started the World Cup season in the best possible way obtaining a victory in the first stage held in Oestersund where in the team biathlon we also obtained two second places with the men’s and women’s teams. Wierer would like to end her extraordinary career with a gold on her home track in Anterselva and has taken great care of her preparation. But also Lisa Vitozzi and among men Giacomel they have proven themselves competitive and can aim for a medal. At the moment in biathlon there are no dominators and this increases the chances of going to the podium for our athletes.

In snowboarding we are the best

There are even problems of abundance for the composition of the snowboard team after the results obtained by Maurizio Bormiolini and Mirco Felicetti who in the first race in China both achieved victory while among the women they competed for the victory Lucia Dalmasso And Elisa Caffont with the first one establishing itself as a demonstration of the superiority of our team. Waiting Moioli and Visentin in the snowboardcross that will start this weekend. And then there’s the 2018 Olympic champion Michela Moioli, given in great shape who will start the season in Cervinia and who last March won the world title she was missing.
