Joe Biden is increasingly alone

It was supposed to dispel doubts about his candidacy. Instead, the press conference, which Joe Biden held a few hours ago at the conclusion of the NATO summit in Washington, ended up strengthening them. First of all, it confused Kamala Harris with Donald Trump. “Look, I wouldn’t have chosen the vice president Trump as vice president if I didn’t think she was unqualified to be president,” he said. Shortly before, still in the context of the NATO summit, the White House tenant had called Volodymyr Zelensky “president Putin”. Biden he has ruled out withdrawing from the campaign. “I think I am the most qualified to govern and I think I am the most qualified to win,” he said. The problem is that at this point he will hardly be able to withstand the pressure of those who are calling for him to step back.

After the press conference, three new Democratic deputies – Jim Himes, Scott Peters and Eric Sorensen – have asked the president to step aside. At the moment, there are a total of 16 deputies from the Asinello who have openly called for a withdrawal of BidenThe Democratic senator did the same, Peter Welchwhile some of his colleagues have expressed strong doubts about the president behind closed doors. Not only that. The famous journalist Carl Bernstein revealed that the leader of the Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumerwould be “frustrated” with Biden.

All this, while for days now the president has been subjected to daily bombardment by the circle of Barack Obama: from David Axelrod to Van Jonespassing through the same George Clooney. Indeed, a few hours before the press conference, the New York Times had reported that some councilors of Biden are reportedly discussing how to convince the White House tenant to withdraw from the campaign. To make matters worse for Biden, some Democratic figures, such as Congressman Adam Schiff and the governor Gretchen Whitmerthey actually asked him to take a cognitive test: exactly what the current president has refused to do since 2020.

The press conference held in Washington will hardly be able to counteract all these pressures. Also because, according to CNN, some of the Democratic donors have suspended donations while waiting to understand the next developments. Which certainly does not represent an encouraging sign for Biden. The president, driven above all by his wife Jill and his son Hunter, continues to try to resist. The real issue, from this point of view, is that the Democratic Party is increasingly splitting not only in terms of parliamentary troops but also in terms of electoral base. The more this internal struggle continues, the more the Donkey – regardless of who the final candidate will be – risks arriving shattered at the Convention Democratic National in August. And that’s hardly the best situation to prepare for the November elections.
