Juventus plays well but doesn’t score (and Spalletti takes it out on Kolo Muani)

Winning debut for the Bianconeri against Frosinone. The words of the coach who scolds the 50 million euro striker make noise, perhaps remembering the many opportunities missed last season…

Juventus made their championship debut with the victory, they also played good football (especially in the first half) but from Frosinone, in addition to the three points, they took away above all the frowning face of Luciano Spalletti. To avoid misunderstandings: the success at home of the Ciociari, anything but soft, is legitimate and deserved, but the memory of the many opportunities thrown away in winter and spring, which cost them qualification for the Champions League, is too fresh not to return to Juventus’ thoughts.

To win and enter the championship on the right foot, 20 shots towards the opponent’s goal were needed (5 on target), a mountain of corners and a header from a defender: Gleison Bremer. The one who at the beginning of the summer had made it clear that he considered his Juventus experience over and that he would even leave if a suitable offer had arrived. Lots of football, especially before the break, to give birth to a little mouse and deliver themselves to a final of suffering in which it was the crossbar that saved Perin and prevented nightmares from taking possession of Spalletti’s nights.

It is not surprising, therefore, that the Tuscan took it out without mincing words with his center forward of the evening, aka Randal Kolo Muani. The man chased for two years, paid a lot at PSG and chosen as Vlahovic’s heir who may have had many defects but who saw the door with a certain continuity. Kolo Muani didn’t play badly, on the contrary, but he sinned in that thing that makes the difference between being a 50 million euro striker or simply a good team man: goals.

Spalletti’s words, therefore, must also be read between the lines because they contain a message to the club: “We went to get Kolo Muani, we pampered him and we know what his value is, but we must realize that he hasn’t played for two years and there must be a reason. Sometimes you believe you are of an exceptional level and then instead you have left something aside and you have to go and get it again. He knows how to hold the ball, go into space, he is physically strong, but these are matches in which he needs to bring home of goals.”

It’s not a failure because it would be crazy to think otherwise, but a sign not to be underestimated. Already during the summer, Spalletti had argued that the transfer market had not given him the twenty-goal penalty area bomber that he expected and that, however, the absence of that profile would have been remedied by achieving the same number of goals by involving the entire battery of wingers and attacking midfielders. Not even Spalletti should be surprised that the Frenchman is not a cold heart in front of goal, yet he is now waiting for another striker to be handed to him.

Who? The identikit leads to Zirkzee because he has different characteristics compared to Kolo Muani but it depends on the conditions given that Carnevali is struggling with the UEFA stakes and with a budget that must be restored at all costs. Another ten days and the games will be over.
