Juventus, when friendlies become showcases for summer sales

In the first summer test against Basel, the Bianconeri took to the pitch with the redundancies that Carnevali had to place before buying. So Spalletti is experiencing an (almost) empty summer.

Douglas Luiz in the middle of the field that Carnevali dreams of placing somewhere, including the salary. Behind Cats who is on Allegri’s short list for the new Napoli. In front of Zeghrovaone of the remnants of Comolli’s summer of horrors and then Opendawho took over from the young talent Ekhator four training sessions and a handful of minutes were enough to end up in the infirmary. In goal By Gregory which Spalletti does not speak about except indirectly to explain that another goalkeeper will certainly arrive and that he wants him with characteristics that are opposite to those of the current number one.

The others? I got up from the bench Ruganiconstantly out since he returned to Continassa, Milik which is there only because it is bound by contract as well as Arthurthe latest return from the crazy season of exchanges and capital gains. Plus a series of kids and a few faces already seen and who will also be there in September when Juventus’ season gets underway.

Lining up the team that Spalletti sent onto the field in the first summer friendly against Basel is impressive. It is the plastic image of the genetic mutation of what are today the tests during the training camp for the Bianconeri: no longer stages in the construction of the identity of the team that will be, but a showcase for trying to place those who are there in a market that desperately needs to sell before it can proceed to buy.

This is Carnevali’s sentence in his first months at Juventus: repairing the errors inherited from the past which are many and very expensive, if it is true that first Giuntoli and then Comolli spent at least three hundred million euros without bringing to Continassa a true owner and leader on which to found a new sporting project. Also on the list are Koopmeiners, Nico Gonzalez (the only one with a shred of transfer today) and David who perhaps could also stay but who in any case is classified under failures.

What happened with Basel is also confirmation of how Spalletti will lack time to amalgamate the new squad. In the best case scenario, he will have the required players late in the summer and perhaps even once the championship has started (it starts on the weekend of August 23rd). In the worst case, some of those who were supposed to leave and remain will have to make do.

Pay attention to the calendar, however, because it is ruthless. After Basel there will be Standard Liège and Nice, the latter at home. Then everyone on the plane headed to Hong Kong (Chelsea-Juventus on 5 August) and Perth (Inter and Palermo on 8 and 11 August respectively). Then the return to Italy and the countdown to the debut with Frosinone in the championship. It may not be Real Madrid, but objectively for Carnevali, Massara and Spalletti it is a summer of pure suffering.
