From episcopal appointments to the Jubilee of Hope, Pope Leo XIV is building a sober and coherent pontificate
A recognizable style. Sober, coherent and profoundly pastoral. This shines through first months of Leo XIV’s pontificate. Every gesture, every word, every decision responds to a precise plan, where there is no imposition of a vision, but rather an orientation. His is not a teaching made of fanfare, but of trust, capable of strengthen ecclesial unity without raising our voices.
A government that favors processes
In just seven months, Pope Leo XIV signed over ninety episcopal appointments. Asia emerges as a great growth site, with new Syro-Malabar provinces and a new diocese in China. The Americas are read as a pastoral and social belt, Europe as a laboratory of governance, Africa as a land of the future. The same criterion returns everywhere: not to occupy offices, but to accompany communities. The choice to privilege diocesan bishops rooted in the territories indicates a Church that entrusts leadership to men capable of listening and co-responsibility. Men who know their territory and its deepest needs.
The appointment of also fits into this framework mgr. Filippo Iannone to prefect of the Dicastery for bishops: a Carmelite religious called to lead one of the central hubs of the Curia, a sign of uniting spirituality and government, contemplation and institutional rigor.
Pope Leo XIV and the wounds of the world
Leo XIV does not ignore the complexity of the present. Far from it. From conflicts in Ukraine And Middle East to the crises in Africa and in Caribbeanthe Pope reminds us not to give in to disenchantment. “Peace is the cry of wounded peoples”, he repeats, placing Vatican diplomacy and ecclesial commitment within an evangelical realism that does not seek a Church without contradictions, but capable of inhabiting them without fear.
The teaching of hope
The heart of the pontificate is an evangelical word that accompanies the faithful. In Dilexi youlove for the poor becomes a criterion for reform. In Drawing new maps of hopeeducation is presented as an act of charity and trust in the future. Even the topic of artificial intelligence is read with this gaze: not a condemnation of technology, but the request for humane and ethical use.
In general audiences, the cycle “Jesus Christ our hope” confirms this line: hope is not a feeling, but a spiritual structure that supports the life of the Church.
Towards the Jubilee and beyond
The January 6, 2026 Leo XIV will close the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, concluding the Jubilee of Hope started by Pope Francis. Immediately afterwards, the Pontiff convened an extraordinary consistory, a sign of the desire to open a new phase after the Holy Year.
After the first trip to the Middle East between the end of November and the beginning of December (strongly diplomatic), others are expected in 2026 trips crucial: in Africa, Latin America and probably Spain. Stages that outline a pastoral Church, capable of speaking wisely to the faithful of the various continents and at the same time guarding its own Western and conservative soul.
